simplejoe Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Topwater- My favorite presentation. Soft plastics- T-rigged or weightless. Out of all the presentations for soft plastics, these 2 are my favorite. Crankbaits- After reading the many articles this site has, I can throw just about anywhere. I do want to get better at skipping, I can catch fish around docks but if i can get back there a little further I know I can get my limit quick. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted January 8, 2010 Super User Posted January 8, 2010 As long as I'm not fishing for money, my biggest strength is I don't care if I catch anything. I love being on the water, and the "thrill of the chase". Trying different presentations and fine tuning my abilitys and a few of you said "patience". If I am fishing for money or bragging rights throw all that out the window. 1.Finesse fishing 2.Spotting structure 3.Watching bait, and watching birds feed 4.Persistance My son started keeping a fishing log of what worked, what didn't, weather and water conditions and because of that no longer complains that he's in the back of the boat. Him and I are learning together to be better fisherman. Quote

bassman31783 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 1. Knowing what areas I'm weak in. 2. Being humble enough to ask for help. 3. The ability to learn, remember, & execute what I was taught. 4. Having confidence that I have the ability to catch fish anywhere, any time, in any condition. 5. (Bonus) Having a wonderful outlook on life. If I don't catch a single fish, at least I got to spend a day on the water. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 8, 2010 Super User Posted January 8, 2010 This is a great thread, especially for the "Hard Water Season". My outlook on this has changed over the years. I can't say that I look at my fishing abilities as strengths and weaknesses. Some fishing techniques fit my personality and some do not. The ones that do not, are my weaknesses for sure. Often times conditions have shown that I have not caught as many fish as I might have (or any at all) had I utilized a certain technique. Back in the day, I was fairly driven to "Catch" but when I didn't meet my own expectations I felt like I had 'failed'. Now when I'm out on a pristine body of water, especially sharing it with someone special, there is no way I can reasonably call that day a failure regardless of the days catch. Don't get me wrong, I try to fish effectively and try to learn new things on and off the water. More recently I have been able to allow myself a certain appreciation for the whole experience. Success for me is just being out on the water. A-Jay Quote

My next big challenge to catch a 30+ lb Permit on fly, although I'm not sure if my reel has enough backing capacity to handle that kind of fish... Quote

jaymc Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I ahve this really good pout to which my wife eventually says: " If you're just going to be a pain in the a$$ all day you might as well go fishing." I rarely fall out of the boat, anymore, and I won't step on your rods. Quote
rat-l-trapper Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I think my biggest strength is not giving up. I can fish day after day without a bite, and I'll still go the next time I can. My other strength is crainkbaits, I love to fish cranks. Quote
