Bass_Akwards Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Again, I asked this a few months ago, but there's a lot of new members, and old one's that have new strengths. So..... What are your fishing strengths? Some of mine are: 1. Patience. I can work over a spot until my fingers bleed(sometimes a weakness) 2. Finesse fishing 3. Intuition/Being in the zone - Many times I can almost "feel" where the fish are going to be. 4. I'm a good teacher. I enjoy and am good at teaching rookie anglers how to catch bass. 5. Top Water. I simply crush it on topwater baits. 6. Accurate casting. I can throw a lure 50 yards on a dime. 7. Catching bigger bass. I consistantly catch bigger bass than all of my friends and other anglers on the same ponds and lakes I fish. 8. Desire and Passion. I have a "Mike Iaconelliish" passion for the sport. When I talk about bass fishing or hear a lecture on bass fishing, I "Glow." 9. Fighting with the Bait Monkey. I've gone many rounds with this beast and I admit, he's beaten me pretty bad at times. Mostly however, I have him under control. 10. I'm smart enough to have found my way to Bass Resource Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 6, 2010 Super User Posted January 6, 2010 Humility and the ability to keep getting better in the art of catching. Quote
TimJ Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I'm patient enough to fish an area with fish until they bite...and usually intuitive enough (or lucky) to know when to leave. Had to do the "stay home" thing a few times before I was comfortable though. I used to have better intuition on all things nature when I spent more time fishing and hunting but am a bit lacking these days. My favourite example is noticing the rabbit's round eye through the grass before I saw the rabbit...just one of those things. TJ Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 6, 2010 Super User Posted January 6, 2010 Knowing what structure is, how to truly identify it, read it, and then fish it effectively Understanding the relationship between bass and their prey Knowing how to adjust to changing weather condition; 80% of my fishing is on days with less the ideal conditions. Understanding the relationship between bass and grass then exploiting it Finesse fishing power baits Consistently catching bass is a process of elimination and duplication. Eliminate patterns and waters that are non-productive and duplicate patterns and waters that are productive. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 6, 2010 Super User Posted January 6, 2010 Catching, not just fishing. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Ability to adapt to any situation or technique too catch fish. Strong in knowing when to move and when to stay. Knowing what my bait is doing and how its acting towards structure and cover. Quote
I.rar Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 after reading the this and the weaknesses thread , im thinking i have to re-evaluate what i need to focus on more. Quote
Gangley Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Patience, I have unlimited patience when it comes to spots that I know are fish holding areas. Ability to Listen, I will listen to just about any and all people who have advice to offer. Persistance, I will not give up on a lure until I have thoroughly exhausted all possible situations to use it in. Quote
Mr Jenkins Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 sightfishing would be my strongest if I can see em I can catch em the ability to accept defeat by people that shouldnt beat me and smile at them after the tournament Quote
christopherjake Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I have no strengths. If I don't catch, I get sad. :'( Quote
A-Rob Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I have this awesome ability to want to go fishing again after I already spent a day fishing! Quote

Eternal Angler Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Mine are: patience Desire and Passion Have my own secretive selection of lures that work on every lake. Quote
angler1 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Knowing that I don't know everything about fishing and the willingness to study any and all resources available to become a more efficent angler. Willingness to learn new techniques that will work once properly executed. Honestly I think I am an average angler. I fish a bunch of techniques ok, wouldn't say any are my strong points, but do have baits i'd rather fish. I keep a fishing log and every year when I review it in the winter I have caught more fish than the prior year so I must be learning something. Quote
farmpond1 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Honestly I think I am an average angler. . Well, at least your honest. On some days I feel like I'm a better than average fisherman and on other days, I feel like I don't know much of nuthin'. As long as your priority remains on tryin' and learnin' (and lovin' all of it), than that's the best strength a person can have. Quote
tholmes Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 1. Jig fishing. 2. Lipless crankbaits. 3. Spinnerbaits. Virtually everything else needs work. Tom Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 My strength and a weakness all at once..... Using electronics, and boat positioning to best fish any specific area..... It's also a weekness. While I was very good at this, I also haven't fished my own boat in a couple years.....This year I hope I get right back into the swing of things. When it's still cold as heck out, I like to go out and cruise around, using my electronics, and maybe a jig.....Not really fishing, but to get back into the painting a picture in my head mode needed to truly see what the electronics are telling me. Quote
kikstand454 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 passion and persistance. i want to fish constantly. all day. when the people i go with are tired or frustrated or hot or cold... im still casting while theyre packing up. and im most confident throwing a c-rig. Quote
Hawghead Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Strengths are t-rigged plastics, worms, lizards, brushhogs, senko style baits. Shallow running crankbaits, I love em and have a ton of confidence in them, especially in a crawdad pattern. Teaching what I know, I don't necessarily know a lot, but I am a teacher by profession (enjoyed a snow day today) and I have learned how to communicate ideas and concepts to make them easier to learn. I think my son is already a much better hunter/fisherman than I was at his age. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted January 7, 2010 Super User Posted January 7, 2010 Spinnerbaits. I love to modify my baits and presentations. Topwater. I got a lot of tricks up my sleeve and I can walk anything in my sleep including many plastics.I love to make my baits dance.Explosions are nice but I get more satisfaction from knowing that I did whatever I did with my bait to make the fish strike. Texas rigs. It's all about rate of fall and also keeping a constant rhythm in the presentation and changing presentations until I get bit. I can always squeeze some bites out with it where others have failed. I feel like I am pretty good at perceiving whats going on around me and reading conditions. I get very in tune to any sounds, wind, ripples,or wildlife around me. I am good at teaching as well.Just need a willing ear. (not that good at typing things out though) I am good at driving and positioning my jon boat and giving my partner a fighting chance. A little 12ft aluminum with a transom mount TM ain't no joke to run when the wind gets kicking a little.Ya got to eat your wheaties. Quote
