Nice fish.

I've seen fish with scars down their sides, I call them battle wounds. The rivers near me holds Walleye, Sauger and Bass so you get to see alot of nibbled fins and scars on them.

That is an awesome pic. Makes you wonder how fast he could still travel, amoung other things.

That's pretty cool. Like many said, I've caught a few that had been beaten up, but never one actually missing a part.

My pet turtle does that to some of the faster feeder fish. Biting the tail off slows them down quite a bit, and it makes them swim like a 3.5" Bass Magic swimbait.  ;D

Nothing like a tail, but I've seen all types of battle wounds.  That one is unique, you should definitely save that picture!  Maybe even get it framed.  I think it's definitely a battle wound.

This is a great picture!  I've never seen a fish with no tail, but I have seen their tails clipped.  Our DNR, like all I'm assuming, do shock data at all or most Iowa lakes to survey the fish populations.  One way they can tell if they've shocked the same bass before is because they clip the top half of the tail off.  The tail does grow back, but it is clear where they previously clipped their tail.  If the lake wasn't covered in 15'' of ice I'd post a picture  :-[

There are a couple reservoirs in Brazil which the bass have defective tails. It is very hard to catch a fish with a normal tail. Nobody knows what causes this for sure here.

I second the snapping turtle comment. theyre brutal! watched one slaughter a carp up shallow once. not pretty!

thats FREAKING hilarious

and i too have caught fish that are beaten up. but never missing a tail!

i did catch a little bass once..... and a monster northern ate the back half of it off.... bass died and the trashing unbuttoned the hook (thank god... thats one bass i dont want to land) and the pike got a good snack!

does that count!?

(I dont want people to think that where i fish is the little lake of horrors..... but i just spend alot of free time watching the wildlife as well as fishing! lol)
