Super User J Francho Posted March 23, 2009 Super User Posted March 23, 2009 Take a look at the vests and packs that fly fisherman use. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat370015&navAction=jump&navCount=1&cmCat=MainCatcat20431&parentType=category&parentId=cat20431 Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I use a shoulder bag. There's no way I could recommend something specific to you. You have to match your own storage needs. John's suggestion of vests and packs that fly fishermen use is fine; it's not for me because I carry too much and my stuff is bigger than what will fit in typical vest pockets. You have a number of options available to you. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I use a small side accessory pack that I got actually for hunting a few years ago, it works great, a couple bags of plastics, a small box of hooks/hard baits/weights. and maybe some pliers. I also use this in the boat so I don't have to dig through my big okee. fats bag to find another plastic when one gets used, i have the bags of all of the plastics I have rigged up in the pouch,so unless a bait change is needed, I don't have to dig in my bag. S I G M A Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 i use a cabelas advanced angler backpack... its real convenient if your moving around a lot and don't own a boat and have more than 1 rod to carry Quote
hercdoc Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 This is what I'm currently using. I can fit a small box of 9 crankbaits, a couple pack of plastics, hooks, worm weights, tape measure, weight scale, needlenose pliers, and a couple of jerkbaits with hook bonnets installed. I can hand carry it or strap it around my waist. This is what works for ME. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=4&idproduct=26 Quote
zbigbadaaron Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 i carry a soft sided gander mountain guide series tackle bag around i only put things that are nessesary for what im fishing so it stays lightweight Quote
Muad Dib Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 hey herdoc thanks i like that versipak in the od green might have to get that for my BDAY thanks fellas Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I did the Plano fishing fanny pack for a couple of years. It was OK, but this year I got this from Cabela's http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20327_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20327&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20327&id=0042540 I got it for $25 on a blowout deal. I like it a lot. Very well made. You might want to consider a fishing vest also. It will hold way more stuff than a fanny pack. My problem with the fanny pack was you could only pack so much stuff. I always ended up wishing I had brought something I had left at home. Quote
BassNub Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 this is what i have, its perfect holds all my bait monkey tackle, water, and also fits perfectly on my back, i can't complain more, but if I were to complain it'll be about the color Quote
hercdoc Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 check out ebay for some good deals...I got mine for about half the price than whats listed on the website Quote
Muad Dib Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2667656 im lookin at this one too. id like to try it on before i bought it. hopefully the local dicks sporting goods will have it. especially if i use my majic coupon! thanks fellas trav Quote
Jake. Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I use a gym bag like this: They work well as long as you aren't carrying a ton of stuff. Quote
OIFBasser Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Um, I don't think they make a cool looking fanny pack. I saw on BPS they make a fly/kayak vest that looks good. Or backpacks work good. Quote
dmac14 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I just use a backpack, holds 3-4 Boxes and can fill plastic baits as well. I used to carry the big Tackle bag too, but usually ended up hiding it in the woods and walking. IMO they over price "Tackle bags" so i just used the old school backpack Quote
FordNFishinLover Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 "Cool" and "fanny pack: In the same sentence? Is that possible? Quote
CRFisher Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Depending on how long you're going to be out I think just deciding to carry less is the key. I have a shoulder type tackle bag, filled to the max. Last year I seemed to switch bait less and cover more ground by throwing a few mixed plastics and some hooks/jigs in a thicker bag along with a crank or two, sticking my pliers in my back pocket and heading out that way. Keep the bag in my car to make a quick trip back if I really feel like I'm going to switch up. 3 or 4 bullets weights, 2 jig heads, 4 hooks along with 2 each of a tube, senko, worm and fluke don't weigh much. Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 For freshwater pond or canal I put a few things in an old rapala box or 2 and just stick them in my shorts pocket. That covers it for me. For saltwater I use a fanny pack, which is very popular down here. I use plastic lure containers and put 3-4 items in each. 1 for spoons, 1 for feathers, 1 jerkbaits and 1 for topwater. I can walk the beach for hours unencumbered and have everything I need. I haven't used a tackle bag in years for shore fishing. Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I don't know what Okee-Fats bag you have, but I picked up a T200 small bag at Dicks this weekend for $10. Carried it for 3 hours Sunday with a dozen cranks, couple of dozen of inline spinners and 10 bags of plastics with 5 packs of hooks - no problem. If this is smaller than what you have, check it out. Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 Fly vest and fanny pack make a great combo. Quote
drmnbig Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I do a lot of river wading and pond fishing so I have a small, hard plastic, double sided box about 10" x 5" x 3". I have a strap tied to it and loop in through a belt loop in my pants or shorts. I think stick my needlenose in my back pocket and head out. It stay out of the way and works great! Quote
MSPbass Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Check it out: http://store.pacifieronline.com/jjcedb.html It's the "men's diaper bag" I used when my first kids were born. Quote
Redhed Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 ill give a cheap tip.. gotta bookbag laying around your house from back in the college days? if so, use it. i love it. it can fit all you need for you day of fishing plus water or whatever drink you prefer. i wouldnt know what to do without it. i have some areas that require a lot of walking and woods walking and the back pack stays on my back at all times.. love it Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 http://bucksbags.com/cm_item.asp?id=20 I have one. Awesome bag. Little spendy. Quote
