this time of year i love standing still, in the wild. only noise is the breeze and the occasional squawk of a herron or the song of a king fisher. standing still with my worm on the bottom, staring at the line,no blinks, my rod becoming an extention of me, almost going into some state of meditation, still as could be, one with everything around me, talking to the bass on the other end of that line with telekinesis, a tiny twitch here and maybe there hoping to coax her. then finally the eruption out of quiet peace as i set the hook on bertha... this is what i LOVE, about bass fishing

A very Zen-like attitude. :) While I am not a Buddhist, I agree that fishing allows me to commune with nature in a spiritual way. It reminds me that I am not the center of things, and that when I slow down and listen all of creation speaks to me. I also like to catch more than my competition. ::)

I just love being outdoors in general enjoying nature. I also love the fight the bass puts up and feeling like I "tricked" the bass in HIS house at HIS game. I just love it.

Just going to the lake gives me goosebumps. With that said : Catching fish is a Bonus.

I love a lot about bass fishing.  But here are the things that I think I love best:

1.  Catching one.  Better yet, catching more than one.  Unlike the more seasoned anglers on here, I rarely get to fish.  And when I do, I zero as often (or even more often) as I catch.  So any time there is a tug on the line, I get excited.  :)

2.  I love collecting lures.  Every trip to the tackle store is fun.  Yeah, I'm that guy.

3.  I find angling to be a greater form of stress relief than simply sitting at home playing video games, reading a book or working around the house.  It's fun to get outside, enjoy the scenery, breathe the fresh air and to soak up a few rays.

4.  I love reading about bass fishing too!  Yup, I've spent far more hours reading about fishing than I've spent actually fishing.  Some day I hope to remedy that.  :)

I enjoy leaving the computer world behind and escaping the manmade environment

where I'm able to replace civic din with the sound of kingfishers, ospreys, barred owls,

bass feeding on top, and the guttural roar of alligators. Catching fish is almost an anticlimax.

I love to be outdoors. As a matter of fact any time possible I will be outdoors. If its just tinkering I am there. But fishing is more than being outdoors for me. I do not tournament fish or even compete in any kind of way. Its just pure stress relief. Even when I don't catch fish its o.k.(which happens way too often) but thats o.k. I just love to be out on the water. Its like for a minute I get to be away from everything. A lot of people will ask me even on days I don't catch any fish if I am glad I went. I am always glad I go. I guess its really more than just "fishing" to me. Anyway thanks for listening.

I love getting away from the everyday things, and going out

on the lake in my canoe. Finding and catching the Bass is

what keeps me going. There is a thrill every time I feel a tug

on the line, the time flies by and the sun going down forces

me to go back home, to plan the next trip.

One of my clients said it very well today. "There is something magical about water."

Indeed.  Nature, wildlife, water, bass . . . . magical peace.

That's how it is for me. Relaxing....Nothing beats stress than being outdoors by the water.

It provides an awesome combination of relaxation and challenges. Trying to outwit a smart predator gives you a sense of respect and a deep reverence for nature and teaches us all that we need to live in symbiosis with nature and not just consume our natural resources.

I love how even though we sometimes compete with each other to see who can catch bigger fish, we still all agree with the fact that fishing is one of the best things in the world.

As Henry David Thoreau once said

"Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after."

Fishing is a way to momentarily step away from the things in life that drain you.  I enjoy it because it is quiet, I enjoy it because it is calm, i enjoy it because its peaceful.   There is no rushing or hurrying, no screaming or yelling, just patience and peacefulness.  I'm fine with not catching anything.  I'm never happy about it, but it doesnt negatively affect my view of the day.  Like I said earlier, my main goal when fishing is to get away from the struggles of every day life, and just relax by myself or with a close friend, and just enjoy being away from everything else.

One of my favorite movie directors of all time, the genius, Robert Altman once said, "I love fishing.  You put that line in the water and you don't know what's on the other end.  Your imagination is under there."

To me, that's the essence of fishing.

Even when I'm in my car on the way to the water, my imagination starts going crazy with all the possibilities of the day.  Once my bait hits the water the feelings intensify, the adrenaline rushes, the endorphins pop, and all is great with the universe.

What I like about bass fishing is the complete mental block from the rest of the world I get while I am on the water. When I'm out there throwing a spinnerbait, I'm wondering...

"Should I be using a worm? A crank? A trap? Wait - the sun is starting to peek out - do I want to switch colors? WHAT WOULD CATT DO??? ;D"

...instead of sitting at the house thinking "The yard needs to be mowed! The truck needs to be washed! I really need to go pay bills! Should I work late tomorrow???"

Bass fishing puts one thing on my mind - figuring out what the bass are hitting, and then catching all I can! I think of very little besides that.

I leave all the stress of my life on the boat ramp; then load it back up when I put the boat on the trailer at the end of the day. Bass fishing is my escape!

Just being Out of the house. Plus the peace and quiet, well, not always quiet, but you get the idea..it's simple. ;)
