32251 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I was fishing yesterday with a Norman DD12 plug and this was on the rear treble hook when I reeled it in. The only thing in the lake I was fishing that is big enough to have a scale this size is a bass or a carp. The carp in the lake do not have the green color like this scale has. If it is a bass, is it as big as I think it might have been. Anybody know? Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 That's a big scale. If it came from a bass then I suggest a bigger rod. Quote
swilly78 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Jiminy Christmas! That thing looks like a toe nail! Quote
Mattlures Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 not a bass Very posably a carp. Car come in different shades from orangw to silver, to green and everthing inbetween. Plus it depends on where on the body the scale came from. I have never seen a bass with that large of a scale or even close to that and I have seen some big bass. Nope not a bass Quote

Nope not a bass Thank you I have caught AND snagged big carp in the lake I was fishing...20-30+ pounds, so I know they are in there. Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I will have to agree with limpin, its nessie, she has off spring all over this continent Quote
Bryce C Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 That's definitely a carp scale.....a local private lake that I used to fish had a problem with grass carp and we used to snag them with large trebles to get them out of the lake and into the field.....came up with plenty of scales like that in the process. Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 I'd say carp scale. It looks like some of the scales I've gotten from the carp I've snagged with my crankbaits. They look like guitar picks. Falcon Quote

Five-Alive Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Geez what a scale .............. looks like a dang Tarpon scale!! Quote
Dogooder Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Carp scales are usually more circular in shape than that. They also do not have the ctenes that embed the scale into the body like the scale you have a picture of does. Could possibly be from a big drum as well. Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 30, 2009 Super User Posted September 30, 2009 Definitely looks like a carp scale. Looks like it has that golden brown tinge to it. Too big for a bass I would think. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted September 30, 2009 Super User Posted September 30, 2009 Both the size and color suggests a carp Roger Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Common carp scale.... I catch common carp all the time. The one you hooked into must have been at big one at 10 LBS + too Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 1, 2009 Super User Posted October 1, 2009 Nessie. No doubt For sure. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I don't know what kind of scale it is, but that is a GREAT close-up photo. Quote
