I was just wonder for all those who fish golf courses. How did you find out that the pond has bass in them. I don't plan on fishing any golf courses, but I've always wondered on how you found the place. Don't they kick you out if you aren't there to play golf?

It may not be legal, but I me and a few buddies of mine just sneak on the golf courses. We fish every pond we can. So far, out of just under 30 ponds, only 1 does not have fish.

Everyone is really friendly at mine, always asking if i've gotten any bites.

I found mine through a friend who was golfing and saw a bunch of surface breaks and took me there one afternoon.

I've never fished a water-hazard, but I'll certainly vouch for the fact that you can find frog legs there. Not much worry of getting hit by an errant ball at midnight, either!  :)

The ones i fish are all in gated community golf courses. I know both managers so they tell me where the best spots are!

I live in one of those gated communities with a golf course and our ponds are full of bass, the biggest pond is 5 acres and I pull 3 & 4#'ders out of it on a regular basis.  Its a killer benefit living 1 block from a bass pond and makes the $1000/yr HOA dues worth every penny.

as a young kid in middle school, i used to fish the golf course ponds of the Pembroke Lakes Golf course in Broward county....

I used to live near the course, so my inquisitive mind led me to the fish...

all the lakes were loaded with peacock bass, it was great!!!!

And yes, the rangers hated my buddies and me...

in fact, the knew us personally because of how many times they chased us around and tried to kick us off.  But we were kids, so nothing much could really be done, or at least nothing much was ever done....

When i was in highschool, i fished the ponds on the Martin County golf course in Stuart FL.  i knew that fish were likely there bc of my younger experiece.  I was correct. In fact i used to catch many fish in the 6-8 lb range from one particular pond on the course.

as for the rangers, i knew them bc i was constantly golfing the course at that point in time.  So long as i came near dusk, when golfers were finishing up, or nonexistant.... they didnt mind, they did always enjoy seeing the pics of the fish that i had caught there though!!!

I am always passing bodies of water & wondering if there is fish in there. My business takes me to a wide variety of areas across California. The only way I ever figure out if there are fish in these places is, I fish them. This includes golf courses. I usually only fish from one of my boats, but when I am out of town on business I always have a rod that is able to break down either in my truck or my camaro.

When I was a teenager in the mid '60's I fished the water hazzards at Crystal Lake Country Club, in Pompano Beach Florida. My grandparents home was just off the third green, and a water hazzard was @ 75 yards from their house. Caught the second largest bass of my life out of that pond. Happy fishing.

i know many anglers that fish golf courses. it's easy fishing, but i don't think it's worth the risk of getting caught, or is it? ;) 8-)

anglers here in socal call it "ninja fishing".

I am a fairly avid golfer and know many of the owners of courses in my area. I haven't fishes the ponds, but I have asked if I could. It is all about that particular course on if they care or not. Most will be alright with it, but make sure to ask first.

I'm on a golf course in Florida( wish I only paid $1000 a year HOA) and the fishing is tough because the water sprayed for weed control.  Only time to fish is at the end of the day when the golfers are done, most water hazards are "in play" for the golfers so you will be escorted out.  Best to have a friend or relative living on a course and fish after hours.

We have many snowbirds here and the houses are not lived in during the summer, people disguised as fisherman have been known to come in and "case" the homes.

I would check with the local authorities for regulations on spraying chemicals in or around the pond. We have very strict regulations here and cannot use any chemicals that could get into the water that would harm the fish. We spray some bio-friendly stuff that helps control algae but even that is tightly controlled as far as the amount we can disperse and how frequent we can use it.

Our ponds are very healthy and the big one is full of bass and bluegill, it also has 2 fountains and a waterfall each with a filtering system so the water is clean and well aerated. The depths range from 1 to 10 feet. Only issue is a shortage of cover, I think Im gonna try an sneak my xmas tree into the water this year! 8-)

It's legal and there are times the fishing is very good. I have the ocean 10 minutes away, I'd rather be there anyway.

First of all, there are quite a few pesticides that are labeled (legal) for control of aquatic vegitation.  (unless you are in kalifornia)  :)

Secondly, as a golf course superintendent and manager, I would check with the course superintendent about fishing.  He is the first one at the facility every morning and would be the best person to see about fishing.  He can let you know if and when you can fish.  HINT:  Have a garbage bag hanging out of your pocket when you ask and tell him you would pick up any beer cans, candy wrappers, etc. around the pond.   ;)

Every golf course I have worked at has had great bass fishing.

I fish a lake (from the bank) in a gated community frequently. One side of the lake has the golf course running along it. During the day I'll fish the opposing side which is usually crowded with fisherman but at night once all the golfers are finished, I might make a run along the opposite side of the lake. I usually don't night fish because the mosquitos become unstoppable. The fishing on the golf course side of the lake is MUCH easier than on the open side. I would never fish on the course while anyone was still playing, I think it's rude and I wouldn't want to throw someone off by being in their way.

There's a 13.5 pounder on the wall of the clubhouse from this golf course lake. I've caught several 6 pounders out of it, and had at least an 8 pounder on line when I tried to hoist her out of the water and broke off. I nearly broke my rod in half that day screaming!

I live in a little town called Maquoketa, Iowa...We have a country club that I fish on about 3 days a week if I can. My family are members and I used to work at the Club, so I know the groundskeeper. He allows me to fish there, but I'm a member too and I don't golf so they really can't kick me out lol. Its catch and release only, so its always stocked. I guess I went there because the guy who taught me everything I know took me there and there are plenty of really great bass. I caught 15 in one hour off of Senkos earlier in the week. Its a lot of fun....not worth coming to this little town for though lol.

15 in an HOUR!! Excuse me while I pick my chin up off the floor.................

You'd be surprised lol...The bass don't get disturbed all of that often so they aren't really spooky about what we throw....In fact it was only the 3rd time I had used senkos but I have had immense luck with them at this particular pond. You should make a trip up here lol, we have nothing else to offer except for caves and a drive in...so fishing is about all I can do to keep sane.
