Gangley Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Fall is coming upon us and its time to switch up lures and tactics for a lot of us. What are your Fall go-to lures and why? What presentations do you strive for? How long do you wait before utilizing them, or rather what conditions do you look for before you start switching to your fall fishing style? This is my first fall season fishing for LMB so I really don't have much to offer and would like ya'lls opinions for reference. The top water bait is still going on in my area so I havent had to try anything new, but in the next month or two that should change. The shad die-off hasnt started yet, but when it does I'll be throwing a bunch of wounded minnow baits (Rapala F-series and Rebel Minnows) hoping to cash in on that, and then going to some finnesse worms and jigs as the water really starts to cool down. I've read where crankbaits don't work in cold water, but in a BASS article i read recently, one of the pro's was pulling the fish in with some crankbaits in relatively shallow water when the water temperature was in the mid-low 30's and the air temperature was in the teens if I remember correctly. Has anybody else had success with crankbaits in the winter? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 14, 2009 Super User Posted September 14, 2009 Mature baitfish is the theme for fall. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jerkbaits rule! Upsize your soft plastics and jig presentations, too. 8-) Quote

Koop Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I would read over this thread, lots of good info: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1251517083 Quote
Gangley Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 Lots of good information about why the summer fishing has been bad, off, or just different, or what they think caused the change, and some talk about various weather patterns. Very few posts about what lures are being used, and why. Quote
tbird Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 This is the time of the year I have a little of everything tied on ... Spinnerbait & worm have been my most productive but have hit the jackpot with topwater and cranks as well. I usually will fish shallow with deeper water close by.Start off working your bait fairly fast and slow down if you don't have any success. T Quote
