MartyMar Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 How and where to fish the zara spook. I had little success fishing with the zara spook. I have the 4inch clear one and the black one and found little success with it. Where is the ideal place to fish it? I do a pretty good walk the dog technique with it and it has not worked for me. Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 Get yourself a baby bass spook and all should be well. Were are you fishing it. I personally have had success around standing trees, over weed beds, and even in open water. My largest fish hooked on a spook was in open water of around 65 ft, I think it came off a nearby ledge, I didn't land it but that's another and why I don't use flourocarbon. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 You wouldn't want to use fluoro with a topwater bait anyways.... Quote
andamtoft Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 personally, ive had the most success early in the morning and as it nears night time. im sure it can work mid day as well. but mainly fished them over weed beds. I like the baby bass as well, but my friend has had quite a bit of success with the bone color. good luck! Quote
MartyMar Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 see, that's another topic...everyone's always like use mono on topwater.. flourocarbon elsewhere...use 8lbs here ..use 20lbs line there...how many fishing polls do you guys bring when u go fishing?? I only use 8lb floucarbon and 12lb mono...and compromise. Quote

sammy1 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 spooks are best when its early and nice and calm. color should not matter too much. i personally prefer to throw it around rock, sand and stickups. experiment also. try putting a chartrues feather on the back treble to get more strikes. dont be afraid to throw the spook back over an area you just tried. sometimes a different angle is all it takes.keep walking the dog and it will pay off. Flouro sinks and affects the action of the topwater baits. That's why people use mono for topwater. I use mono for pretty much everything though. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I fish the spook post spawn. I do a double sided walk the dog, left walk, right walk, or dip. It all depends on what area I am fishing. I only use mono to fish that bait. I find it very effective in choppy water on long points. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I use spooks and walking baits when the bass want an actively moving topwater. Most of the time I prefer poppers though. With the rapala skitterpop, and can pop it AND walk the dog at the same time with the same bait. So you might try a skitterpop in the same areas. Quote
