Fishing Hurts!

Alot of my soft plastics have salt in their bags wich I assume give them flavor, but handling them has become a problem. The salt has created small cuts on my hands making it hard to cast and just in general fish.

The cuts are painful too. Rigging up a bait takes awhile and every so often I can be heard screaming in pain as water or part of the bait enters the cut.

I don't have soft skin or anything like that (I lift weights so I have developed a calasis).

Is it just me or do you guys also get cuts from these pointlessly bag salted baits?

I don't think the salt has ever cut me directly.  It does hurt when you get the salt in a preexisting cut though.

I've never gotten cut on salt.Never heard of anybody else getting cut by the salt either while rigging baits....However salt IN a cut hurts like heck!

Just dip the bait in the water,then rig it.Might help,because salt dissolves as soon at it touches water.

The salt is not cutting you.  If you are a weight lifter then you probably use some type of powder to dry your hands.  If your hands are too dry then the skin will split in minute fissures.  That's where the salt enters and causes the pain.  I suggest that you rub your hands with a skin softener lotion every evening before going to bed.  The skin softener re-hydrates your hands and prevents the splitting.

never heard of that.  it's probably more likely something along the lines of what long mike said.  If it hurts that bad, maybe try wearing some gloves while putting the bait on.

I have dry skin and can relate to fishing leading to my skin cracking open but getting to go fishing seems to outweigh and aches and pains that it causes. I do notice that the salted baits tend to dry my skin even more but haven't really thought that the salt was cutting me.

Well, there used to be a time when salt was used to desinfect and help cure injuries.

Don 't think it burns more than benzalconium chloride ( Benzal ).

You're a weight lifter man.  Suck it up!  The pain is good.  Pain is your friend.  The pain and burn means you are getting stronger and better.    Seriously, it is probably like Mike said.  Lifting weights with dry skin can cause small cuts in the skin that you would not notice until the salt finds it.  Definitely use some lotion at night to help your skin.  Maybe use some Mega Strike on your hands at night.  Your hands will smell good and the fish will like it better than jergens I am sure.

i dont think its the salt cutting your hands either. like the other guy said, your skin is probably just dry and cracking. and really, i only use a couple fingers to put a plastic worm on a hook and that includes taking it out of the packaging. what are you doing, rolling them around in your hands like play dough?
