JacobK Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 My local lake has been COVERED in what seems to be underwater mats, it seems to be muskgrass http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/ponds/p/ap/guide/submersed/charaspp.cfm well i can get a jig through it....and i was doing it all day but i didn't get any hits....just wondering if there could be any fish hiding under this stuff because it's taken over atleast 30% of the lake. DINK WHISPERER Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 What i would give to fish that man!!! Grab a flippin' stick, craw lure and get to work!! Quote
branhap Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 In my local bass lake they love that stuff. I fish Cranks over it, and along the edges all day long landing bass after bass, along with perch. Biggest thing, is the hawgs will do their best to bury down in that stuff, so it's important to try and keep them above it, otherwise, they can be a pain to get out with all that grass adding to their weight. Joe D Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 We have that type of grass in some of the lakes around here, look for green grass with deeper water near by. Some of the best spots I have found are 4-6 feet deep with 8-10 deep creeks running close by. Get a 1 to 1.5 oz tungsten bullet weight, heavy braid or mono, 4/0 heavy wire hook and a beaver or craw lure. Pitch the the edges or any holes you see 10ft or so back from the edge. Bites will normally be right as the lure punches through the matt. Be ready and have fun Quote
steezy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I discovered a small lake Sat morning that is filled with muskgrass that JacobK mentioned, http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/ponds/p/ap/guide/submersed/charaspp.cfm looks like it covers the entire bottom and the water is clear. I was attending an athletic event for my sons high school and it was next to a small lake, I walked out on a pier and looked down to see dozens of small bass and hundreds of small bluegill swimming around the pier posts. I ran to the truck, grabbed a setup with a watermelon senko, first cast caught a 2# bass. I called around to day and found out its a city owned lake and was stocked for bass fishing. No boats are allow but fishing from the pier and shore is allowed. What would be the best bait and technique? I know the senko works but is there a better bait for the muskgrass environment. Quote
