Busy Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I see I was quoted here. My first sentence was NOT IN A BOAT. As in, not in a kayak, canoe, bass boat, ski boat, pontoon boat, inflatable boat, jon boat, etc. If I am on the shore I will drink. I do not drink spontaneously, it is always a planned event, and I have definite limits with consumption. If I have to drive the limit is 0. Safety first, fun second. There is ample room for both. Beerman Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I am a firm believer of not drinkg when im fishing. Im usually to busy fishing anyways to stop and drink beer. I sometimes find it hard enough to stop and drink soad/water. Quote

CmacFL Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 LOL this thread. On a fishing charter for grouper in FL...you better believe I drank about 10 beers. The deckhand & captain would have popped the tops on my beers if I asked them to!!! Calm down people just don't drink and drive a boat/car etc. Quote

mrlitetackle Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 ok..... so here's my thoughts as this thread is becoming a mighty debate........ never in all fishing instances (for me) except one. that one being. fishing for catfish, from the bank..... in a pond that is walking distance from my place..... and you better believe that while waiting on the shore, in the dark, with a lantern, chicken livers, and bug spray, with no driving responsibilities, and the only task at hand is to set the hook...... that i will down some beers. other than that...... nope. D4u2s0t Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 There is no reason you guys can give to justify drinking booze while you are out on a boat............................None at all. i fish a private lakes, with no gas motors allowed, no jet skis, nothing. the boat moves about rowing speed with out 27 lb trolling motor. what's wrong with having 1-2 beers over the course of a few hours in that situation. i agree that you should not be getting drunk on a boat, but i see nothing wrong with having a beer on a hot day while on the lake. Super User grimlin Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 *Food for the thoughts* Beer causes dehydration....Since you are already out in the hot sun losing bodily fluids,It takes less amount for you to get drunk and higher risk of dehydration. 8-) Quote

ABLE2DISABLE1 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 10, 100 or just2 beers is to much DRIVING anything,Bicycles as well, even your john deer tractor. It does not matter.Charter boats have your party favorites on board, that does not mean the boat will not sink, you,ll be the first to go to the sharks.KEEP drinking it will all catch up to you latter. Where did I say you shouldn't have a couple of beers sitting on the bank ? no, i fish on a boat. said boat moves about walking speed though lol. my point was its not a huge public lake where boats are wizzing by at 70mph. the other 2 or 3 boats you may see are either being rowed, or have small trolling motors. also, i'm right off the lake, you can see it from my house. so there's no need to drive. Super User flechero Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 This thread is about like a C & R thread. ...lol Just like off the water- those who can go out to dinner and have a beer or two responsibly can probably do the same on the water. It's like anything else, if you observe the law and use a little common sense, it's very easy to do. Those who go out and get hammered and drink irresponsibly, often do the same on the water. Operating a boat is no more or less dangerous than a car when drinking. If you act responsibly, there is nothing to argue about. For some, that means no drinking and for others a beer or two is not a problem. Quote
avid Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I haven't gotten drunk on a boat in a whole lotta years, but when I go now, along with plenty of water I take two cans of beer. Can't say that it makes a difference to my fishing one way or the other. Quote
CmacFL Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Well put Mrlitetackle.... Trying to make a name for myself?? Or become a cool guy? I'm not trying to prove anything, just making a point. If I'm on a charter boat, there is a captain of this vessel, with a deckhand who could also drive, I can have a beer if I want, no one is in danger. Not arguing with anything. be happy Quote

For some, that means no drinking and for others a beer or two is not a problem. Thanks, Flechero. I tried to make that point a few pages back but it appears to have fallen on deaf ears. Again, one beer at 5 percent alcohol ( and most are actually a bit less than 5 percent) is six tenths of an ounce of alcohol. The average liver can process about one ounce of alcohol an hour. That means if the liver processes alcohol at a linear rate, the six tenths of an ounce will be gone from your system in 36 minutes. It would appear, from the facts, that drinking one beer, as opposed to four or ten, would be highly unlikely to cause any harm except for the smallest of human beings. On many subjects such as this, there is a spectrum of opinions ranging from an extreme at both ends of the continuum (i.e. One should not drink any beer as opposed to someone who says drinking two six packs is ok.) Usually, the correct answer, based on the facts, is not at the extremes of the continuum. (The same can be said for political opinion.) Quote

Super User grimlin Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 It's all a matter of opinions.....Some of us rather not drink, some of you guys say "one" or a "few" is OK. Personally,i don't drink enough....so my tolerance is low.I rather wait till i get home. This thread is running it's course, everything is getting repeated.Already ticking a lot of people off. I'm surprised this one didn't get a "Goodnight Irene" 3 pages back. It was interesting to say the least what the responses were. Regardless if we agree or not. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 I don't believe in mixing pleasures. I get soozled before fishing and after fishing, but never on the water Roger Quote
