bigtimfish Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This may be a touchy subject.Since I purchased my boat I have not mixed the two. When I am in another persons boat I will drink beer(not a lot), but not in mine. I do not like the idea of being intoxicated(even slightly) when my and whoever is in my boat safety is at risk. What are ya'lls thoughts on this subject? Quote
BassDeaton01 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I successfully quit drinking a year ago but I dont think I would enjoy bass fishing while drinking IMO. Never done both at the same time. I think that there is a place for drinking and it is not anywhere near a bass boat. I think there is too much concentration involved with bass fishing to need to worry about having a beer. Just my personal opinion. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 It bugs me when other people are drinking while fishing. They tend to be loud and rude. I'll save my drinking for after fishing when i get home. I rarely drink,so it's not often you'll see me drinking. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 sometimes i'll bring a few on the boat, (when I say a few I mean 2 or 3) and 90% of the time what happens is I open the beer, and it sits there and gets nasty warm, and I don't drink it anyways. I don't think i've ever fished drunk in my life, or even a lil tipsy for that matter. I'm not against it, as long as someone is not driving drunk (just because you're on water doesn't mean it's safer than a car) I just usually get so caught up in the fishing that I don't drink the beer I brought. Quote
Desultory Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I don't have a boat, but if I did I wouldn't drink and drive. Depending on what type of fishing I'm doing on shore (like fishing for anything but bass) I may knock back a couple of beers. I find that when I'm trying to bass fish I don't really have time to drink a beer. I might bring a couple in the cooler and when I take breaks have a beer but when actually fishing I don't have a free hand to hold a beer. Maybe I should get one of those beer helmets. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I like to fish, drink beer, and eat fried chicken. Sometimes I do all three at once. Quote
Captain Rhino Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I only tap into the juice when I'm bait fishing and the fishing is slow. If I'm lure fishing, I don't even bother because I'm not putting the pole down. A few beers won't hurt anything, just don't let Johnny Law catch you. :-X Quote
SoFl-native Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 It takes so much concentration and focus to fish effectively.......i cant imagine drinking while fishing. Quote
JellyMan Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I love to drink while fishing. We still keep it responsible, quiet, and fun. My buddies hate when I drink cuz I narate everything I do like it's my own fishing show. LOL. They just sit there and listen to me go with a huge smile on their face hahaha. Quote
BrnzeBckStalker Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I just recently fell into this situation myself. I just got my boat up and running and I have yet to bring beer on my boat nor do I want to. When i fish on my friends boat we bring a few tall boys, maybe a six pack. I will drink then as I am not the operator. And usually I will drink the beer in the process of running the motor to a location and then finish the remaining while I fish. If we are out for awhile at night we drink a bit more while bait fishing. The last maybe 5 out of 8 times we have been out we have been stopped by TWRA officer and did not get in trouble because we were within our legal limit. We do not drink to get drunk, we just drink and fish. But still if it is on my boat, I am not drinking at all. Like it has already been said, i do not want to be responsible for someone elses safety if i was drinking and got in an accident and it wasnt even my fault. that little bit of alcohol in your system could still get you in trouble. Uncle Leo Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Plenty of time after I am off the water for that. I do like a Capt and Diet Pepsi though when the fishings done. Quote
BrnzeBckStalker Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Yuengling.. My favorite! I could do without the contest they have for the official new Yuengling jingle. Quote
tutle Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Better watch out Uncle. That diet stuff is not good for you. So far this year I have had about 3 drinks and I believe all of those were shots of tequila and not while fishing. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with someone having a cold one on a hot day on the lake if they were so inclined with moderation and discretion observed. From what I have seen it is the water skiers that tend to party on the water; not the fisherman. Quote
crw Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 When I fish with my son(s), I will have a few while fishing, they drive the boat, trailer it, and drive home. The few tournaments (I am not fond of tournaments, makes fun work) I have fished here, none is allowed. I believe that in South Carolina, no alcohol is allowed in a boat. Quote

Quitlimpin Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I will usually throw a couple beers in the cooler. Not even enough to get buzzed even if I were so inclined. Nothing tastes better on a hot day on the water. That being said, the boat is no place to get hammered. Too many things could easily go wrong. Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 Yuengling.. Yes, Yuengling is great, I used to drink it when I lived in Va. But please don't turn this into a favorite beer while fishing thread. Thanks Quote
Slip Gun Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 My friend and I take out a canoe which is a bit different situation. But we certainly take a cooler and have a few while out there. We don't get loud though - that being said we sometimes do catch a buzz buts its normally towards about 2am when no ones out there and we are really just chatting and catching up and fishing has wound down for the evening. We also never leave far from shore and our dock if that's the case. *Also important to note we walk from where we put the canoe to his house so no we are not driving under the influence* -Edit: Also as a side note we have no motor we only have oars Quote
SammyLee Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I don't drink alcohol when I am in my float. I would hate for something to happen, especially harm to others while I was drinking and fin kicking. :-X Truth of the matter, is that I quit drinking this spring and won't drink at anytime, or at least not today. I'll let tomorrow bring what it will. Having said that, I have no problem with folks who drink responsibly. Bill W is my fishing buddy. Stone cold sober at 70mph running on the pad scares the crap out of me anyway. Quote
slider head Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Only when fun fishing. Me and my brother very rarely get a chance to fish together. When we do we will throw a couple in the cooler. My brother is a very bad influence! Besides that, the fish police are all over SML! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 A few beers won't hurt anything, just don't let Johnny Law catch you. :-X This statement doesn't even make sense.THIS is my biggest pet peeve about people.Contradiction in it's finest form. Everywhere i fish alcohol is not allowed. If i have to follow it,everybody else does too. If it's allowed by you, then i see no problem with it.As long as people are following the rules and law. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 There is no reason you guys can give to justify drinking booze while you are out on a boat............................None at all. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 There is no reason you guys can give to justify drinking booze while you are out on a boat............................None at all. Thankfully I don't have to justify it to you. If I am within the law, I will continue to enjoy beer and bass fishing. Quote
jimmieO Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I'm always the operator, and I never drink on the boat. Don't know if I would if I was the back of the boat guy either. I'm also not going to jump on a high horse and tell you how bad you are for having a beer, as long as you aren't the driver. My buddy got a bit tipsy on the boat on his birthday this year, and I'll tell you, that was one of the most fun days we've had fishing. There is absolutely nothing better than cold beer on a 135 degree day! Quote
