FordNFishinLover Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Alrighty, well yes i have fished a LC pointer. FANTASTIC bait, but i was wondering if there are any alternatives? Some cheaper baits that mimic the pointer that do a good job as well. Im fishing some ponds with alot of trees and i hate losing 15-20 dollar baits there. Today i lost my last pointer in american shad. So i walked to other side and waded chest deep in FREEEEEZING water. Guess what couldn't find it. My friend sure did get a laugh at it though. Especially when he was casting 2 feet from me and catch bass haha. Well any help would be grateful thanks!! Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 I just had the most incredible jerkbait day of my life. My partner and I had over 100 bass on jerkbaits. We used a lot of different brands and on that day the Xrap beat my pointers like a left handed, red headed, unwanted stepchild. I had only boated one fish until I borrowed some of his Xraps. You can bet your bottom dollar I won't hit the water again without several of my own. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 I've found that the X-Rap is a very good jerkbait. Quote
senko_77 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 This is something that a few of us on the board kinda keep as a secret. It was posted a long time ago and it works. It's cheap and it's fun. Try it out.... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1174101259/12#12 The reason the pointer is so effective imo, is that it rolls better than other brands when you twitch it. It also sits more realistically on the pause. When you do those modifications exactly like is says in that post, it will work JUST like one and you will slam the fish on it. Plus, you have to lose like 7 or 8 until it reaches the value of an L.C. Quote

hawgchaser Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Academy sells H2O jerkbaits that have copied the LC paint schemes. I have 3 boxes full of x raps, pointers, rogues, jackalls, and the most productive one has been the h2o shadtruese. They have VMC hooks and cost $3.29. Unbeatable!! Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 Try the Duel (Yo Zuri) Fuze 3D Minnow. This bait casts great and supends well! http://cgi.ebay.com/DUEL-LURE-FUZE-LURE-SERIES-3D-MINNOW-F385-TM_W0QQitemZ350179947246QQihZ022QQcategoryZ7300QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 There is another jerkbait that works fantastic, and not alot of guys fish with them. Try the Bomber Long A's. They are fish catching machines, and don't cost an arm and leg. They come in floaters and suspending. Falcon Quote
FordNFishinLover Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 AWESOME replies, gunna give all these a try out!!! Thanks alot senko, id heard of someone mentioning this before and was very curouis! Cant wait to try this out! Quote
The_Natural Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 The Pointer and X-rap are the two jerkbaits I throw the most, yet are very different behaving baits. The X-rap has a very erratic darting action, while the pointer is a more controlled, 'subtle' action. Both have their time and place. After a spring cold front, the X-rap has done very well well for me. I even won a tournament in '05 using an X-rap after a cold front pushed the prespawn fish back. My partner was using a pointer in a similar color and wasn't getting bit. You really need both. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted March 23, 2009 Super User Posted March 23, 2009 X - Raps rock and might be my favorite jerkbait, even over a pointer. I would say the pointer has an action in between an X - Rap and a Husky Jerk. Quote
Primus Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I agree with Natural's comments about needing both in your tackle box, there will be times when one is preffered over the other. Lucky Craft also offers some tranluscent colors like Ghost Minnow & Ghost Sunfish that ofter attract more bites in certain situations (think very clear water on a sunny day) that Rapala doesn't currently offer. I would also reccomend the Ima Flit, I've also heard good things about the Spro Mcstick. Quote

FANTASTIC bait, but i was wondering if there are any alternatives? Some cheaper baits that mimic the pointer that do a good job as well. Alternatives ? there are a lot of "alternatives", there are tons of jerkbaits in the market, each one is an alternative. Cheaper that mimics ? No Every jerkbait is different and has a different action, today you slay them with a Husky Jerk and they won 't even sniff at a Pointer, tomorrow you murder them with a Pointer and won 't get even a sniff at a Husky Jerk, next week no matter the brand as long as it is a jerkebait you get great results. The truth is you need a couple of these, a couple of those and so on. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I always carry at least one pointer, one x - rap, and one husky jerk. Quote
