Shawn OConnor Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I swear, if I try another spot and hear about the big one they caught a few days ago, I'm going to throw up in my mouth. Two times this week I've been told that not one but two 7+ came out of one pond in VA and another 7+ in a different pond in VA. I think it's funny though because I know when I caught my first 5, I thought it was a 7. I'm sure a lot of people do it. Does this happen to everyone? Quote

D4u2s0t Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 well, it's been my experience that if people do not/have not owned a scale, they have no idea about weight (i was the same way) I saw a guy pull out a 12" bass (doubt it was a pound lol) and he was yelling about how he caught one almost 3 pounds. My first 3 pounder I would have bet was well over 5. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 13, 2009 Super User Posted August 13, 2009 It seems like there is always a bigun that came out of where you are not too long ago....A guy at walmart told me and a buddy that he liked to dropshot the cliffs of a lake we were about to fish...said he caught a 13lber not too long before drop shotting 80ft of water....just FYI, the lake record isn't near 13lbs...can't remember at the moment but it would be a stretch to say it's a double digit and if it is, its 11lbs at the most. :-? Especially with pond fisherman, typically they don't even have a scale, they catch a nice fish and they estimate the size and like to say they caught a monster. I have friends who pond fish quite often here in florida and they like to say they caught one 5, 6, 7, or even 8 pounds, then I then look at the picture and see its more like 3-4 lbs. Or this line "I LOST ONE THAT WAS DEFINITELY CLOSE TO 10LBS!" Typically they are catching 1lb dinks so when they actually land a 3-4 lber, it looks like goliath. It's like come on dude, invest in a scale and don't lie to yourself. I fish almost everyday on a lakes and ponds and since summer began, I'd say I've caught about 50 bass between 4-5 lbs, with ONLY three over 5, and one over 7. The 5lb mark is tough to tough to break this summer, but at least I know when I do get one. I would only trust those who are reliable when it comes to size of bass. I fish places where I judge on average fish size. Typically the higher the average weight of fish in the water, the higher probably of something very big. Pond fishing, you're odds are slim, and with the pressure, typically don't produce for me. Although, I see people getting large bass out of ponds in florida, if you are getting your line wet in a pond, don't go with such high expectations, but rather with just trying to catch fish in general. If it happens it happens. I just got off the lake this morning. Caught 5 bass between 4.3-4.12 in 2 hours of fishing. Gosh I would love to say the 4.12 was over 5, but guess what it was 4 ounces shy. Why couldn't it have eaten a bluegill before it got my rattletrap? I would have kept fishing but that d**n coffee was running through me. Quote

Here's a perfect example Leesville Loins Club Tournament Donnie Gill of Leesville, La 15.03 pounds on the official Toledo Tackle scales He caught the bass on south Toledo Saturday, June 27, around 7 a.m. while fishing about 22 feet deep with a Texas rigged 7 inch worm. Ok nothing wrong with that but for some unknown reason I watched dozens of boats fish this exact spot hoping to catch that bass or his momma; problem that bass died in captivity. Quote

How often have you set out to fish the far shore only to meet people who launched on that side heading for your shore? It has happened to me ALOT over the years. the funny thing is how many people don't think it's funny. Quote
