I am finally going to (hopefully) get on some decent sized smallies either tommorow or Teusday. My bro and I are going with one of our guide friends up to the base of a dam, and I am in search of a 3 pounder. This would shatter my PB. I am so pumped. Plan on using some topwater, jigs, and maybe some tubes. God I can't wait.

Good luck to you! I caught my PB smallie this year, weighing in a 4.1# fought like a 6#er. Was a blast, it was near a dam/loch system. I noticed a trend, the current from the dam was a slow / steady current but the loch only opened once in awhile and created a fast current when it opened. Everytime it would get ready to opene I would toss my tube right infront of it and let the water drag it. This was the ticket as the smallies were waiting right there for the baitfish getting caught in the current. We caught 2-3 every time that loch opened. Which was about once an hour or so... but they wouldn't touch the baits when it was closed.

I recently got some topwater baits that are handmade by this guy I fish with up in maine when I visit my house up there. Man topwater for smallies is so fun, I fished for them a couple days ago and caught a couple of 2 1/2 pounders on them. Good luck and I am sure u will have fun.  :)
