Super User Micro Posted August 3, 2009 Super User Posted August 3, 2009 Yes, it's a Black Crappie. Not a bad little fish in their own right. Nice looking one, too. Quote

I.rar Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 question. what is a good size to keep crappie for food? fillets or nuggets? i may have to give these a shot... Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted August 3, 2009 Super User Posted August 3, 2009 question. what is a good size to keep crappie for food? fillets or nuggets? i may have to give these a shot... where its legal a crappie caught is a crappie kept as far as im concerned. less competition for bass. it real easy to fillet the fish out then cut to size for cooking at the time of cooking. On well i am headed out to try and catch one before night fall Whatever you are doing, it must be appealing to fish. Now you just gotta do it in front of a bass instead of a crappie. When you catch that first bass (and it's inevitable if you keep at it), post a pic for us. Quote

Up here, they're usually called specks. We catch them all the time when using small bass lures, so you are getting close. Good Luck! Quote
Koop Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Most definitely a black crappie. Good fish to have fillets of. On occasion we will go out and catch a limit of gills and crappie and perch makes for a good fish fry. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 Better to ask a question than to be a dummy that "knows everything" and doesn't bother to ask questions. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Better to ask a question than to be a dummy that "knows everything" and doesn't bother to ask questions. HUH!?! Quote
skillet Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 2 of the largest crappie I've ever caught was while bass fishing. I was using 1/4oz spinner baits with 6" straight tail worm for trailer . Keep at it ... skillet Quote
uicdent11 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Keep asking these "very dumb questions." First, someone out there is probably asking themselves the same question in their head. Heck, they might have caught 50 crappie in a day and thought and tell everybody they had a 50 bass day. Second, you will never learn unless you ask questions. Some of the smartest people I know are the ones that "sit in front" and ask what seem to be the dumbest questions. And three, you have definitely come to the right place to get your bass fishing questions answered. Good luck getting that first bass. Quote
SWH Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Thanks for all the support... Got nothing last night but figured i would try again in a few min for about an hour before i have to be out of town for a few days. When i get my first bass i will post it for sure. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 It might help if you used larger baits. Quote
BassDeaton01 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 The only dumb question is the one not asked. I'm sure I've annoyed some people on here with the "dumb" questions I ask but it is all part of the learning process and this is the place to get your questions answered. Good luck on catching your bass!! Quote
6pointbuck2003 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 keep going at it SWH. also try new lures. find out what your good at and grow confidence in that style of fishing. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 Better to ask a question than to be a dummy that "knows everything" and doesn't bother to ask questions. HUH!?! Maybe that wasn't worded right Let me break it down for you DW. You ever meet anybody that won't take advice or even ask for it because they somehow know it all already? A question asked is a question learned no matter how insignificant it may be.Everyone needs to start somewhere. Quote
