Super User RoLo Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 The poll choices were well thought out, but no choice really fit my situation. I voted nevertheless just to see the results, and was pleased by the consensus Throughout the years I have freely given away hundreds if not thousands of waypoint coordinates to both freshwater and saltwater anglers. In most cases, I've done the work of many anglers to nail down each waypoint, which I repeatedly tweak with each revisit. No one lives forever, so it gives me great pleasure knowing that other anglers are getting to reap the rewards of my efforts. I'm very lucky, because I enjoy pinpointing coordinates almost as much as catching fish. In addition, I have great confidence in my own ability to find new and better waypoints, faster than I can give them away. So far, I'm well ahead of the game Arched rods, Roger Quote
mrlitetackle Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 i agree with the majority of the results... Quote
slider head Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 It is funny this thread comes out now. As a general rule, I do not disclose many of my spots. I just told a friend this the other day. I have, or so I thought 3 spots that I thought were top secret! 2 of the spots I have NEVER seen anyone on 1 spot it has been at least 2 years since I have seen a boat on it. Last Saturday night there were boats on all 3. There are no secret spots! If you have a decent depth finder, know what your looking for and spend enough time on the water.......it will be found! guitarkid Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I fish ponds mostly, my "Honey-Holes" move with the bass, although there is an old dock that I don't really tell people about unless they see me fishing. -gk Quote
Lynx Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 This is like someone asking you what color bra your wife is wearing. 1. You just don't ask. 2. If the guys is still alive, you just don't tell. Quote
ABLE2DISABLE1 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I personally do not like when you share a spot with somebody and they tell the whole world about it.So now, I look at it differently, let them see the spot, sample it when fishing. Then let them go back and figure it out for themselves. So much of the time they come back and say they couldn't buy a bite. They still have-to figure out the bite for themselves. Super User RoLo Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 Out of 20000 of you guys, there are 2 that know the name of my favorite lake. LAKE? Oh, I thought it was a Delta :-[ Quote
Red Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 i wouldnt tell anyone where i fish..ever!! cuz i dont want them to get skunked too!! ;D seriously tho, if someone asks i will tell them what i know. told a couple dudes this past weekend when they asked. just simply told them i caught two on a spinnerbait, no keepers, they told me basically the same about their fishing. Lynx Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 When people ask me where I caught my fish I put my finger on the inside of my cheek & say right here, when they ask me what I used, I tell them the truth, I used Bait. When they ask me what kind, I tell them one that catches fish. If they ask me about my set-ups, I tell them ones that I buy in a store. ;D Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 For me, it's "don't ask and don't tell". I'll find my own fish and don't want/need anyones help because finding them is what I enjoy most. They can find their own too. "Where'd ya catch 'em?" Shallow or deep is the answer, I won't lie about that. "What'd ya catch 'em on?" I will tell this too, whatever it was, won't lie to them. The only people that know of any of the specific "spots" I visit are those I take with me (and others that know the lake of course). I have only one close friend that fishes and he's not very serious. Otherwise, just my 2 boys. Nothing is "secret" on any of the lakes I fish. Plenty know the lakes. Lots of people can't find the high percentage areas or "spot on the spot" anyway and that is stuff I would NEVER tell. There is one guy on our lake who watches me all the time. Last year he watched me work a hump for over 2 hrs. I boated a good limit in that time and left. He followed me to shore when I went in for lunch and talked with me, asked what I was fishing out in the middle of nowhere. I told him "go look". He was a nice a guy and I've talked to him since and he's caught fish there but not the 3lb'ers he saw me boat that day. He'll figure it out on his own, and I have no problem with that at all, the water is public property. He respects that I'm not going to give away everything, I respect him for that. I suspect he wants to do it on his own anyway. Quote

Most people ask questions out of courtesy, and a lot of them aren't even listening to the answer, and the rest of them will forget the conversation in the next 60 seconds ;D Roger Quote

Just trying to get a few laughs from my fellow forum members. That's all. In general I can really care less, the fact is that even if you don't tell that one person where your "secret spots," are somebody else already knows. Quote

Jaric Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I tell people where not to fish. Does that count? Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 I use to but the people I told never came out to the lake. I'm not sure if they didn't believe me or they came out to the lake and didn't catch anything. Quote
done Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 There are some well known spots around the lake. To a newbie I will give them those locations. I have a couple spots that are to hit a lot and those I share with friends only. Now on a couple occasions I have had out of town BR folks contact me who are heading to Wylie for a trip and looking for some spots. i will give them the best spots I know of. I know i will not have to compete for the spots and might help them have a good trip. Quote
KevO Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I am willing to share most of spots with anyone who wants to talk. Generally, if I share so will they. However I only share really good holes with my partner. I have spots on every lake I go to that produce good limits. Those are the ones I share. Then I have the spots where I go to add weight. Those are kept between me and my buddy. Quote
