Super User Fishing Rhino Posted August 2, 2009 Super User Posted August 2, 2009 Sit. Have no choice in my smaller canoe. I can stand in my wider, semi-vee canoe, but still sit. I have stood and cast recently, and the perspective is dramatically different. After sitting while fishing for many hours over the last year, when I stood, it seemed like I was about 12 feet tall. Sitting in the canoe makes me feel like a part of the pond. Can't beat it for handling the fish when you get them to the boat. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I'm shore bound/wading bound. So, I'm always standing. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I stand when casting artificals for bass & crappie, sit when bait fishing for stripers or catfish. Quote
InLikeFinz Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I normally stand unless there are larger boats or a jet ski zooming by! -j Quote
mikesjet Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Stand I only sit if I have to tram with the trolling motor to another spot, it it is close by. I do sit once in a while because of back aches. Quote
adclem Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I stand as much as my knees and back will allow. I feel like I have more control standing then I do sitting. Later, Quote
simplejoe Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I stand all the time, even at tournaments. It doesn't feel I'm giving it my all if I'm sitting. joe Quote
endless Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Which do you prefer while fishing? I stand most of the time for most techniques except when I'm using worms. I find it hard to stand and fish slow. i stand always mainly cause im using a jon boat and my seat is just mounted on existing frame seat. Quote
mjhutch1116 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I stand to fish everything but soft plastics. I just can not seem to slow down enough with out sitting down. Matt Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 2, 2009 Super User Posted August 2, 2009 Both. Depending on how I feel. Quote
slider head Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I always stand.....But with SML's constant boat traffic and huge wakes you are forced to "lean" against the butt seat alot. If it were not for the constant beating you take on that lake I would not even have the butt seat. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 I fish the same way I pee. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I fish the same way I pee. How can you set the hook while sitting down though, LOL!!!! Just kidding man!!! Quote
etommy28 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 i use a leaning seat when im on the trolling motor, when im in the back i sit when troughing slow baits and stand when cranking, top water, and other faster baits. Quote
Stagerlee Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I try to get to highest point on my boat for best vision. Quote
Big Phish Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 "Why stand when you can sit?" - Winston Churchill Quote
BassDeaton01 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I try to stand as much as possible. I fish out of an 8' Pond Prowler and it took me some time to get used to standing in it. I have found they are pretty steady on the water. I feel I have way more control of my casts when I stand but I do alright sitting too. Quote
BrnzeBckStalker Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Always stand except to run the boat to a new location. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 I stand all the time. I get more distance on my casts, and better hook sets, while standing. When I used to walleye fish, I sat all the time while trolling. Falcon Quote
Super User RoLo Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 When I owned a small open boat with "bench seats", I had to do everything from a seated position. Today, I always fish from a standing position, and about the only time I sit is to re-rig or relocate. Roger Quote
Lynx Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Stand always, but an occasional sit to rest. 8-) I AGREE! 8-) Quote
Folshen Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I'd love to be able to stand but with a 12' jon I'm stuck in the seat 99% of the time. It's got to be some very calm water in order for me to be able to stand...even then its not a "steady" comfortable way of fishing. Quote
