Kingbass43 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 So when do you keep your bass to mount it i heard the best weights for a largemouth is 7 1/2 and up Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 take pics, get weight and measurements and release the fish Quote
riverfisher Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I wouldn't keep it at all....... measure the length and girth take a couple quality pictures and get a replica. Quote
Desultory Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I would think it's probably be better to take a lot of pictures and have a replica made than to keep it for mounting. EDIT: I'm slow. Quote
tyrius. Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I'd only keep a record fish. If I wanted a mount I'd get a replica. Quote
Cableman Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Start at 5lb and then work your way up 1lb at a time. Quote
Jake. Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Quality replica mounts look better and last longer. And you get to release the fish to catch again when she's bigger. Quote
Mottfia Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I guess it depends on where your from and how big your fish get. Here in Alabama, a 6 lber would qualify for being mounted by most guys. Mottfia Quote
Lynx Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I personally wouldn't do this (mount), I would have a replica made. But then again everyone is different, & the choice is yours. If I were going to do this it would definitely have to be over 10lbs. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 Any thing over 30 lbs. should be mounted. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 But then again everyone is different, & the choice is yours. Exactly. 8-) Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Personally, I like the look of replica's better but that's only second place to the fact that I would NEVER remove such high quality genetics from my home lake. Quote
Stagerlee Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 10 lb + from any state lake would do for me. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 For me personally, I don't think I would ever pull a bass from the water to mount it. As LBH stated, if you leave that fish there her genes will be passed on to the next generation and you'll have more large bass in the future. If I nailed a 10 lb plus fish I would probably get a replica mount. However, as I agreed with a post earlier, it is ultimately your decision. Quote
