Koop Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 A guy at work today was explaining to me a method his father had taught him on getting jigs or whatever un hung out of the rocks. He went on to explain that you use a spark plug (from a vehicle), stick a paperclip in it, making a loop, keep your rod at 11 o'clock and slide the spark plug down your line. He said when it impacts it will shake it free. Has anyone heard of this?? Sounded odd to me but maybe worth a shot. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I've actually heard of this before. Never tried it myself or even seen it tried. I'll bet some of the old guard around here keep a couple plugs in their tacklebox. Quote

Koop Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 innovation at its finest... hah I may have to try that next time. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 For $10 you can but a plug knocker. I have the Bill Dance one, and its paid for itself about 50 times over. Not one lost lure from a hangup. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 Never tried that. But, as a kid we use to use sparkplugs as sinkers if we didn't have $$$ to buy real ones...lol Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 I made one out of a 10 ounce egg sinker and some 100lb power pro. Quote
moby bass Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 No matter what you use, when fishing from shore, any retrieval is difficult. I have had the most success with snapping the line like a bow. Frequently pops the jig loose. Quote

Tanker4lyfe Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Yep i can honestly say I never really lose anything anymore and i owe it to learning the BOW SNAP method. Quote
Willzx225 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I have a small rig that I made that works pretty good. I took a 4oz casting sinker and put a small snap on it. I just keep it up by the trolling motor foot pedal and can clip it on my line when I get hung. If I loose it its no big deal. If that doesn't work I then go to the big plug knocker. It is just quick and easy w/o having to wind the line back up on the knocker. Quote
Shad_Master Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I have become real proficient at getting hung up - but never mastered the art of juggling the standard plug knocker along with the rod/reel while trying to hold the boat in position - so this year, I discovered an alternative - I picked up a "golf ball retriever" from Wal-Mart (about the same cost as a plug knocker at BPS, etc.) - it extends out either 10' or 12' (can't remember) and has a circular plastic ring on the business end - I cut a slit in the ring and can slide my line through it and then extend down to the lure and knock it loose and (usually) reel right up through the ring - then the retriever collapses down to about 4' and fits right in the rod locker. NewAngler Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I wish I read this about 2 hours ago.. Dagger. Lost two rooster tails before switching to topwater. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 One of the things I like about wading in the creek. If you must, then you can just walk over and get your lure loose. Quote
