Throughout the years my wife has gotten into the throwing parties part time career. (tupperware, avon, pampered chef, candle lite, etc, etc).

i got to thinking. why cant there be a fishing lure party that can be thrown? so i decided to google "fishing lure party" and guess what, i found one. its only in Australia though. why cant there be one of these in the states? how awesome would that be? has anyone ever heard of these?

OH Hell Yeah!!

Even better, combine it with a "wife" party (i.e. Pampered Chef, Avon, Tupperware, etc.) The ladies can assemble in the house, guys in the garage, basement, man cave, etc. You're still doing something together, right? Though it'd be a double hit on the wallet that week.

i have started the contacting process how to get this started over here!!!!!

i will let you guys know as soon as i hear anything  8-)

I've always thought of those as kinda a girly thing, its an interesting idea, but what baits would you sell? and would you be able ot offer them at a reasonable price to where people would buy them instead of at the sotre, or online? I mean, if its conceivably done, thne cool, good idea, and you're getting in on the ground floor, I just wonder how you'd make a market for it, being that there are plenty of places to get baits already.... not like avon, princess house,or pampered chef where you basically have to get them form a sales rep...

I can't decide quite how I feel about this.

what negative thought could be in your head about this? :o

Yeah, I don't think there is. Except for the added expense that it would give me. Alright, I'm game.

big mike in fl - i totally understand what your saying.  like i mentioned.  i dont even have a clue on how to begin or what i would do.  im still trying to get information on something like this.  as of right now it seems like im getting some positive response about it.

there is a high chance i could be shot down and it go no where.  but i wont know till i research it.  i have contacted a few places so far but like you mentioned, if it doesnt save any money then whats the use.  but then again, if it costs no more than if you were to go the store what are you losing?

im still looking into it  :)

reds, if you can figure it out, I think you'll be a hero to all of us.

Guys, just imagine every time your wife blows $$$ on avon, or princess house, or whatever, you turn around and do the same thing on a zoom/***/ heddon party! they might think twice about spending on the useless stuff they seem to buy.

Just a thought.  Why not a fishing lure party?

I don't know.  Some think it's a great idea, and it may be, but I think otherwise.

Think about the parties you mentioned, tupperware, avon, pampered chef, etc.

As a rule, the party items are not available in the marketplace.  They are pretty much available only at parties.  You can order them from a "party holder" without actually attending the party.

Would you attend a Rapala party, or a Strike King party, when they are readily available through the net or local stores?

OK, someone develops a line of lures that are sold strictly at fishing lure parties.  Unless, and until they are proven effective, how inclined will you be to purchase any quantity of them?

How 'bout a B**jo Mi**ow party?  OOOPS.  Sorry, the devil made me do it.

My opinion is most likely a reflection that house parties don't appeal to me, regardless of the product.

Now, if you could get stuff at deep discounts at a party, I'd be interested.  I doubt the retail marketplace would sit still for a manufacturer competing against them with home parties.

It may be a great idea.  It just doesn't appeal to me.  Not trying to rain on anyone's parade.

not trying to claim 'credit' as i'm sure this one has been kicked around forever but i thought of this one over some Canadian Blend Whiskey years ago. (along with some really bad haircut ideas)

It wouldn't be too tricky. All you need is a bait company that would be interested in packaging 'party deals', and would be willing to no longer offer online/direct purchases.

Here's what i've got.

1. You would have to keep it ' exactly like ' tupperware or avon's business model.

ie, The host would be directly in the profit loop. Either goods, money, or both. You would have to have a single rep per area and a strictly defined 'area'. It'd be the reps job to find party hosts.

2. You would have to convince a grown man to tell all of his friends to come over to his house for a 'Bait Party' AND (here's the big one) everyone there would see exactly what you bought/ ordered.      (for those of you thinking....'who cares'. You'd be blown away if you found out how truly secretive all your fishing buds were)

b

I was thinking a bait vending machine at every ramp would be the ticket!!! Any investors??

Excellent points, all.  Especially the secrecy part.

For recreational fishing, secrecy is vastly overrated.  Even in commercial fishing, there are very few "secrets".

You have plenty of secretive fishermen to be sure, but very few secrets.

We talk about promoting fishing, (unless that is strictly a marketing ploy by those who make their living selling product to fishermen), and yet are secretive?

How do we "promote" fishing by being secretive about fishing?  They are mutally exclusive.

I'll share my experiences with anyone, provided it's a two way street.  If someone is only looking for info, but not willing to share what they know, I write them off.  They are strictly out for themselves.

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Give Big M a call and see if he would be interested in moving some of his products in a party atmosphere.  It is something that you can't pick up off of the shelf and it would benefit all parties at one time.  Customers would get great baits, the middle man could maybe negotiate a small commission, and Marty could move more product.  If he doesn't want to do that, I'm sure you could find a custom painter that would work as well.  JMO  :D

How about guys getting their used tackle/lures/eqipment that they don't want or don't use any more and getting together for a few beers, etc,. and selling/swapping stuff?

It wouldn't seem so much like a man's tupperware party and it would be a way to get things started.

Unfortunately I offer another spin, at least for me. Looking at the people that attend Avon, pampered Chef, and so on, it is clear that most attendees are women. The ONLY criteria to attend one of these parties is that 1.) you are invited 2.) There is no number two.

Most women cook to some degree, and most women like to look and smell like a woman. So any product related to this type of party will appeal to almost 100% of the attendees. Now, on to the men.

I know a LOT of men. I know many em from work and quite a few from private life. However, within my circle of friends, or even acquaintances, I know of maybe one that does much fishing. That means that if you were the district party rep trying to recruit guys to throw a party here, don't call me. And by the same token, I know of no one who would call me to attend a get together. Therefore, the only way I could see getting any kind of turnout, at least in my world, would be to advertise and throw a public party in a public place.

Fishing is quite a niche market, along with hunting, motorcycle riding, and hundreds of other 'man hobbies' (I mean NO dispespect to our women anglers. However, the number of participants IS disproportional). Everyone has to eat (Pampered Chef) and store the leftovers (Tupperware). Most girls want to act like girls (Avon). And so on. So their POTENTIAL product market is huge.

I guess what I'm getting at is if one of you does pull this off, and it ever works up to my neck of the woods, I hope you consider a public show. My buddies like to have a beer or two, but they ain't gonna talk about fishing when their tongues loosen up!

dude, my wife just spent a fortune of tupperware. its not cheaper at all in any sense than the stuff in the store. its the fact they know how to market their product, train their saleswomen, and convince the consumer that its head and shoulders above anything youd ever find in a store.
