So I went to the lake this week knowing full well a storm front had stalled out and hadn't reached my area yet. the way i read the radar, I had about two hours before the front caught back up to where they had predcicted it would be.

I was wrong..... but it was awesome!

I was jig fishing up really shallow and getting tons of light bites. theyd grab and run with it! I was just making an adjustment to a smaller jig with less of a weedgaurd when the rain started, light at first. and the bite got alot faster!

still missed. but then the rain really started to come down......     the bite slowed then stoped....

What Im wondering. is the bite went away before I thought it would.    fishing from shore. through lilly pads. what is the best way to keep on the bite with light rain?

any ideas?

Sometimes the bite just stops, regardless of rain or no rain.  I fished the other night in rain that varied from light to pourning down and did well.  When I didn't get a bite in about 40 minutes, I went home.

I might have tried changing baits.  I was fishing 7 inch RageTail Anacondas (my favorite right now, caught a 16 incher this morning) and gone to a crank bait or buzz bait.  Perhaps as the water cooled, they changed depth?  Really, it's about the same as if you had just started fishing a particuliar spot.  Where are they?  What do they want?  Will they reacton strike?

I have no real daily goals, so if I've had a pretty good day and they stop, I just figure I wore out my welcome and go home.  They'll be there tomorrow.

My favorite time to fish is the day of a front or during a stalled front ;)

During those 2 times period bass will become very active but just like any other time that activity may only last for 30 minutes or it may last hours. Remember all bass do not become active at the same time so will probably have to move areas after the slow down.

If it's 30 minutes or hours I'll take it; all my double digit bass and largest stringers came under totally overcast skies.

Me and a friend went fishing a couple weeks ago and it was looking like rain and he wanted to go home.  I said no come on the fishing is getting ready to get good.  I had no clue how good.

Over the next 2 hours in a constant light rain shower we managed to catch about 60+ bass between the 2 of us.  I was using a KVD Swim Jig and he was using a Wacky Worm.

When the rain stopped all of a sudden so did the bite.  It was an awesome day that is for sure.

Later, :)

im no im always changing if not getting any hits rain or no rain. ill only give up if i have to go home or just nothing happening at all. like today i've been twice this morning caught a 3.5 pounder than nothing so i left and went back this evening. more likely im going back tomorrow morning too. these ponds i was scared was only producing 12" or less till my 3.5 pounder i caught today so i have to know if they get bigger i did i caught the grandmother of them all. im on a mission and next week im hoping to land me a jon boat.

my only downfall where i fish is you can only fish sunrise to sunset.

I love horny toads, but the pads are starting to get to tall to fish it effectively. lately, Ive been sticking to swim and fliping jigs instead. enough wait to punch through the tall pads and get to the wholes underneath them.

But my real concern is this, I fish from the bank, and the lake i fish is bowl shaped, slow tapered sides.... so once the rain got heavy, Im thinking the fish backed off to the deepest points on the pads and got low to the lake bed......

eventually it got so bad I couldn't keep fishing, the wind was blowing so hard it got difficult to see what you were doing. Im really glad i didnt rent out a canoe that evening.......   I woulda got stranded on the far side of the lake until after dark......
