FishAddict104 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Im new to fish - and fishing. Can anyone help me identify these? The green one I think is a bass, but it doesnt really have that famous line across the side, and it also has some blue coloring on the bottom. The silver one is actually very cool looking. Its very silver and shiny - many other colors in different reflections. Both of them I believe are about 2lbs, give or take a few ounces ( i do not have a scale). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Quote
Dalton Tam Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 The pictures aren't really defined but I'm going to say that the silver fish is what we call a (goo fish) or gaspergou and the other fish is what looks to me like a smallmouth or maybe a rock bass. this is what ppl call a gaspergou around here. Daniel My Brother Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 The silver fish is a freshwater drum. The greenish brown fish is a smallmouth bass. Quote
crw Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I would need better pictures with side pictures, mouth open, with the top and bottom fins extended. Bass color depends on what water they come out of. Swampy (tannic acid) bass are darker in color. Clear water bass (Table Rock Lake) will be much lighter in color. Quote
Koop Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 looks like some white bass or rock bass. The one on the right is a small mouth it looks like. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 20, 2009 Super User Posted July 20, 2009 looks like some white bass or rock bass. you mean the one on the right looks like a rock bass, right? I think the first two pics look like drums and the last one is a rock bass or little smallie. Also, unless you have a gigantic hand, I think you need to get a scale. ;D Quote
FishAddict104 Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 Are these edible, and or good tasting? Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Are these edible, and or good tasting? Both are edible, though I wouldn't eat a drum -- and I'll eat just about anything. Smallmouth are tasty, but usually have pretty strict guidelines on catch sizes and limits. The one in your picture on the right would not likely be a legal fish where I live. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 this is what ppl call a gaspergou around here. Hey BFM, I've heard 'em called a lot of things, but Gaspergou is a new one on me. That is a good one. ;D ;D I can't wait 'til I catch one so I can hold it up to my buddy and say "Gaspergou!" Quote
