Me and my buddy always seem to be really early or missing it by 15 20 minutes.  Depends on the drive of course.  Just dont want to miss that topwater bite first thing.

I like to be on the water as the sun comes up. That being said, the availability of the topwater bite where I fish changes throughout the year. Right now you can catch fish on topwater all day long. In fact, right now, my Pop-r  and my spook are my search baits. I will still throw a worm if I'm not getting hits someplace to see if there is anything active down in the grass, but I will catch more and bigger  fish on top right now.

Man, if you are missing it by 15-20 minutes then get ready to depart 15-20 mins earlier, there are charts that tell you at what time the sun rises it 's just a matter of checking them and set your alarm.

Don't laugh, but any start before 11 AM is an early start for us :-[

And mind you, every lake we fish is within 30 minutes of the house.

Problem is, I rarely cash-in before 2:00 AM, whether I'm going fishing or not.

On the other hand, we generally fish till sunset, so we get in over 8 hours of fishing.

All the guides will say that the best time is from 10am to 2pm on Guntersville right now, atleast for the big fish. I guess I'm a traditionalist in that I think I need to be there at sunrise. Plus I can be home by noon and have the rest of the day to do all the other things that come up on weekends.

Me some moons ago: the lake is two hours away, I 'll be up by 4 AM to be there at sunrise

Me now: the lake is two hours away, I 'll be up at 8:00 ? ...... let 's make it 8:30 AM, we 'll be at the lake by 10:30 - 11:00 AM, we are in no rush.

As Ellesar pointed out above, the best time period for "big" bass

normally takes place during "midday" (that is a fact).

I admit to missing the splendor of watching the birth of the day,

but there's equal beauty at dusk, watching the day close out.

I'd do that more myself Roger, but my 4 year old has me conditioned to get up early! I don't get to sleep very late even if I don't go fishing, figure if I'm up I might as well go fishing.

I'm usually up at 4:30, on the water by 6, but in the colder, winter months, I may not be on the water till 8. this is in reference to when I'm on the boat, if I'm fishing from shore, I just go whenever I feel like it really, no prefered times

Exactly, my experience has been that, big bass being old are like us old farts, they ain 't in a rush to be up early so no point in being early if they ain 't outta bed yet.  ;)

Got it.  Just sometimes you are driving to new lakes and not sure on things.  6 am seems to be the key time.  Thinking 5:50 for safety.  Cant wait for Sunday

Get off work at 4pm, start fishing at 5 or 6 til it's dark or I can't stand the mosquitos anymore. All the fish at my local lakes seem to bite around 7 o'clock.

I don't really have a set time I go.  I usually go when I wake up and have some coffee lol.  Sometimes morning, sometimes all day, sometimes night.  Last week I woke up at 4:30 am and couldn't sleep, so went out for a few hours.  really just depends when I feel like going, and what my schedule is.  I would never not go at a certain time though.  If i don't have anything to do, and want to go out, I will.

Keri and I at 4:45 am.  The pic is a little blurry, but it looks normal to me because that's how things look to me at that hour!  ;D

Alarm is off at 445, take the dog out, put the dog in the car. Get to lake/river and tie her up, lure in at 6.

I usually fish mondays and fridays.. Today I saw the sun rise, and went out again tonight and saw it set.. Oh yea, got my first bass, too!!!

All depends on temperature here. In the cooler months, it's the warmer side of the day you want.

Between then and full summer, we'll go as late as 4:30-5am and fish the rise and the warming hours.  As the weeks pass and the weather gets warmer and warmer, we adjust earlier and earlier but for the bulk of the year, once the warm weather sets in, we're on between midnight and 2am.
