farmpond1 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I have two: 1) Never bring a camera. 2) If I am fishing with a certain friend, he will always catch a bigger fish than me. Even if he were on life-support, he'd still find a way to beat me. Quote
TommyBass Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I wouldn't call my self superstitious but normally in tournaments I won't put any water in my livewell until I have caught a fish.... no need for the cart before the horse right? Plus its less weight for take off Quote
wagn Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I always wear a hat when i fish. I have a bunch of different ones I will wear. However I have one unlucky hat. I have a Gamakatsu Hat I will not wear. The always get skunked when I wear this hat. It's still one of my favorite hats....but not on the water. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2009 Super User Posted July 15, 2009 I don't really have any superstitions, but I do have some weird observations. Kind of like Catt's bat thing, up here there is a massive hatch of a certain may fly that almost always precedes a thunder shower. Another is when carp are busting. Its usually time to move, though not always. I can't really think of any others. Quote
StinkyBass Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 i have to wear "my good luck" fishing shirt that i always seem to catch big bass with, oh and my catch percentage seems to go up i dont brush the teeth! but i guess thats why they call it superstition Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 3, 2012 Super User Posted March 3, 2012 I have a certain hat I like wearing, and when it is cold, it is ALWAYS time for the over-alls. Both are in my avatar! LOL! But other than that, its just fishing. Jeff Quote
tugsandpulls Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 its too cold to fish is hogwash thats my saying Quote
scrutch Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Ok, so if I have my rig washed, tackle organized, wear red shoes and a stinky red cap that doesn't say Gamakatsu, stinky shirt with no red in it, and underwear with no red, leave the wife and kids home, make sure there's a Y in the day...uuuhhhmmmm....., make sure the lake hasn't gone dry.....uuuhhhmmmm...., take no banana or camera, , eat a cookie, take a lucky coin, rusty pliers, go when the cows are standing up and the bats are flying, look for a bird flying nearby, cast into dead water first where carp are busting, say "this spot sucks, this is my last cast, we haven't caught any in a while", don't pick my teeth with a worm hook, dip my hat in the water, wipe blood and slime on my already stinky red cap, use a fresh worm, no water in the livewell until I catch a fish, oh, and don't brush my teeth......(deep breath)...then I'm GUARANTEED to have an awesome day! GOT IT! WOW! WHAT is that awful smell? Anyone wanna go fishing with me?? 1 Quote
hatrix Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 When the wind is out of the East on Erie. I don't know if there is any real fact behind this but it really seems to hold true when perch fishing. It usually seems to be a slow day when that happens. Both of my grandfathers who don't really know each other use to say that about East winds and its seems pretty accurate. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Won't catch any fish if there is a banana in the boat! Quote
Fontana Finesse Man Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I always listen to the same music on the way to the lake. Have a cd that I burned years ago called my "get 'em" cd. Ride Wit Me by Nellie, Music by Erick Sermon and Let's Get Married by Jagged Edge must be played loud on the way to the lake and on the ramp! It wakes me up and gets the blood flowing. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted March 4, 2012 Super User Posted March 4, 2012 When i get up to go fishing I get dressed exactly the sameway before every trip. I walk up to my fishing spot and put everything down the same exact way. Once i'm in the zone or zoned out its just me and the fish. My confidence is 200% in everything i'm doing. I pay attention to my lures and presentations. Its not luck in fishing, luck is at the casino, its skill in fishing and that means success. I would suggest reading all the tips here, watchy every fishing show ande listen to what they say plus watch what there doing too. Get every piece and bit of knowledge you can. I have a libruary of fishing dvd's and VHS tapes too. I watch these over and over all winter to refresh. I also read my notes i make all year too. I have to also have my fishing hat and my polorized glasses too. If i don't have them the trip is a bust. Quote
fishinkeebs Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I used to have a favorite hat that I had to wear. Now that hat has finally wore out and I am still catching fish. So no, but as long as I got a line wet with some kind of lure on it I got chance. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 5, 2012 Super User Posted March 5, 2012 I have no superstitions. I base my success on being good. Quote
draggin Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 i get an amp energy drink and a can of grizzly wintergreen. my fishing partner gets a monster energy drink and a can of the same chew. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 used to have a Mossy Oak camo hate my moms husband bought for me after i killed my first deer ever several years ago. somehow that hat got lost, misplaced, stolen, grew legs and walked away, but it never turned back up, just disappeared one day. that hat seemed pretty lucky to me. then i ended getting an all black panther brand hat with the lights on it built in, that hat has been pretty good to me for awhile too. i did lose it for awhile but found it when i moved last year and its still got that lucky feeling. also, one day looking back at some old pics of me and fish, seems i do pretty well when wearing a red or some shade of red, t-shirt... BassmanDan Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 A little "luck" the night before seems to bring me better results...or maybe I just don't feel as bad about it if the fish don't bite. Quote
George Welcome Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I live with this superstition on every trip: It's easier to catch fish when in the boat than it is when under the boat. Quote
fadetoblack21 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 i get an amp energy drink and a can of grizzly wintergreen. my fishing partner gets a monster energy drink and a can of the same chew. If the fish aren't biting we both put a dip in. . . never seems to work but we still do it. I've always been told when the wind is out of the east they bite the least. I don't know that I believe this one because I've had some of my best days with the wind howling out of the east. Quote
Greed Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 During the fishing season I don't wash my fishing clothes much. I don't think much of it really, by the time the mosquitoes start getting thick my outfits are already impregnated with DEET. 1 Quote
