Ok I'm just curious, I have started wearing a landing glove with full thumb and half fingers on my left hand when I do flipping... Does anyone else do this? I found atleast using 50# braid if I get a slip or flip to fast the braid will cut into my thumb or pointer finger and by the end of the day I'll have a few paper cuts... just rather annoying.

When i flip i do it with 65lb straight braid and no glove! All i do is put some tape around my thumbs fingernail and lay the braid on that. It takes time to adjust but it gets very easy after a while.

I must be doing it wrong I haven't gotten any cuts yet.

Trust me, if you power flip and pull fast enough, it will happen!

I sometimes might wear a Band-Aid if I am flipping all day, but I don't usually do it.

How will wearing something on the hand that holds the reel handle reduce feel? The feel comes mainly from the hand that is holding the rod.

We use a product called Kendall Flex-wrap, 1" blue for wrapping fingers to prevent line cuts out west. The tape is self adherent, water doesn't loosen it and easy to use.

x3 I flip with braid a good bit and I've never been cut. Maybe its because my fingers are all super caloused from guitar?

maybe it is a speed thing, maybe I am flipping to fast.

Any time you are holding superbraid with line pressure and the line moves, it will cut you. Bass are not too much of a problem, but fast running salt water fish or stripers are. If you snag your lure and try to rip it free, you can cut your fingers for example.

It could also be that you are not flipping, but pitching and not holding the line.

yeah i've cut my hands pulling snags with braid and even setting the hook (i put my index finger under the level wind), but never flipping.

when i flip i hold my rod in my right hand and i hold the bait by the hook shank in my left hand. i don't hold the line above the lure in my left hand because that seems like i'm just asking to get hooked...

That would be pitching not flipping!

Flipping is done in super close quarters and or shallow water. You are using your hand to pull the line out of the water near the reel while raising your rod then placing the lure back into another hole then letting go of the line.Your not using your reel or adjusting the length of line or actually casting the bait.It is faster and more efficient to "pick" apart an area directly next to the boat. When you use your hand to pull the line out of the water you can get hung up a little in pads and brush and it can cut your fingers.Thats flipping, correct me if I am wrong. I know everbody has their own ideas on some things. ;)

Get it straight Dave. :P

I get cuts from tying too much all the time ::) Try sticking you hand in a bag of Yum worms afterwards :o
