Super User Dan: Posted July 9, 2009 Super User Posted July 9, 2009 Dan - If you don't like him, that's fine. That's your choice. But to make assumptions about his character without knowing him is unfair. You wouldn't want somebody to do that to you. I've known him for 10 years. I have no reason to lie to you. I have never said anything about not liking him. I'm not even assuming anything about his character, I'm just saying I think it's sort of a show that he puts on for the benefit of the crowd and to energize the sport, that's all. I'm not judging him, I just think he has a good marketing plan. Glenn, so you're saying in the 10 years that you have known him his demeanor, style, or attitude haven't changed in ways that seem more hip/energetic/showy? Besides that, has the extent of your relationship ever been anything other than fishing celebrity/media outlet owner? Please don't read my posts and picture me sitting behind my computer with an angry face. I seriously don't care what he is, I just think it is a clever marketing plan and I'm open to any evidence that is stronger than what HE wrote in a book or how HE is represented in the media because I still think those could very easily reflect the persona, not the person.
Super User Muddy Posted July 9, 2009 Super User Posted July 9, 2009 Hey Dan; Being a North East Italian American; I can tell you that I am usually amped on a daily basis, as most my friends. I am passionate about everything I am into; you have seen it get me jammed up here. :-? I don't know Iaconelli from a can of baked beans, but come fish in a boat with me, I yell for every bite, yet alone fish. You can check that with Zel,Sharkbite and Long Mike I have fished with them all. Culturally we are raised to express ourselves, and to do it loudly! I remember fondly, dinner every Sunday, at Grandparents house and it was like eating in center field, Ebbets Field.I don't see him as being an actor, I see him coming from similar roots .

So you're telling me that you shout at the top of your lungs so everyone on the lake can hear you and spit all over the deck of your boat whenever you catch fish? If so, please video tape it and post a link ;D
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 If you made as much money fishing as he has, i bet you would be screaming too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the guys spirit man!
RobbyZ5001 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Dan do you fish tournaments? Dan do you honestly think he shouts and flips out with every fish? You have got to be kidding. There are times in a tourney where I would yell for a 14" fish. Everytime I see him yelling and flipping out hardcore is when he is fishing a tough tournament or in contention to money. Also on his fishing show if the day is SLOOOOWWWW like I have seen in many episodes he gets excited to get any fish he could hook into. I don't see him flipping out when he catches 20 12 inch fish.

Then why don't the other hundred some guys do the same thing? Why does he flip out on his short features between shows on ESPN on the weekends?
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 9, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 9, 2009 Glenn, so you're saying in the 10 years that you have known him his demeanor, style, or attitude haven't changed in ways that seem more hip/energetic/showy? Â Besides that, has the extent of your relationship ever been anything other than fishing celebrity/media outlet owner? Good questions. Actually, he has changed through the years. He's calmed down to a certain degree, especially over the past few years. Â Most notabely he doesn't let things upset him like they used to. And yes, we're friends, not just professional acquaintences. Â We became friends while he was still in the federation. Â And I've met his kids. I'm certainly not trying to brag or name-drop or anything. Â You asked.

Super User 5bass Posted July 9, 2009 Super User Posted July 9, 2009 Sounds like somebody drank too much Hater-Ade. I don't mind Ike's antics at all. The dude gets amped up......so what? It's nice to see him (or any of the pro's) show some emotion. Those guys are 'living the dream', I'd probably yell and scream too.
Super User Dan: Posted July 9, 2009 Super User Posted July 9, 2009 Sounds like somebody drank too much Hater-Ade. I like the purple stuff... ;D
Super User Raul Posted July 10, 2009 Super User Posted July 10, 2009 Where the "$#%& is Irene ?!? Â >
1inStripes Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I think its pretty legit with Ike, because sometimes that emotion has gotten the best of him like 3 years ago in Kissimmee.
hjerk24 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Cool Ike Pic I took 3-4 Years Ago up at Champlain...NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! We were just launching at Ti, and he was right there...SWEET! I love the guy!
OH-bass614 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 i dont think its fake ... i read his book and he seems like a cool guy. heck i was getting pumed up watching the classic this year. its kinda cool to see someone out there thats like that fishing at that level.
1inStripes Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Remember to Dan we know someone who's celebration is worse than Ike's. Â He likes to moon other boaters to celebrate catching a dink, I mean fish. Â ;D
Jeremy D. Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I love to watch him!! He gets excited but thats better than catching those big ones he does and calmly sayin "alright"
Super User RoLo Posted July 10, 2009 Super User Posted July 10, 2009 The day that Roland Martin retired from bass tournament fishing, he used Mike Iaconelli as an example of anglers that he was no longer able to compete against. Even though my disposition on the water is diametrically opposed to Ike's, I find the man amusing though a tad obnoxious. In the final analysis, controversial anglers like Ike are good for our sport of angling. Does anyone remember the "I Like Ike" lapel buttons when General Eisenhower ran for president? Never mind, you're just a bunch of kids ;D Roger

clipper Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Does anyone remember the "I Like Ike" lapel buttons when General Eisenhower ran for president? Never mind, you're just a bunch of kids ;D Roger I don't remember seeing the buttons but I do remember hearing the slogan. That's strange seeing that now I can no longer remember a new phone number long enough to write it down. (Team Depends Member). :-/ Maybe someone should make some bumper stickers that say "I Like Ike" and get rich selling them to bass fishermen.
jax Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Shoot every time I catch a bass it makes my day. I agree with what Glenn said earlier. For me actually catching a big fish is great but catching any fish means I did something right and finally found where they are and what they want. I get excited over every fish every time. Now I don't fish tourneys so I try and be respectful on the water and try to keep my volume down. But I personally do not know one person that does not get excited when they catch a fish. A big fish is a whole different ball game. That being said I also know guys the purposely cause a big ruckus to demoralize their opponents. They catch a fish EVERYONE hears them yelling on the water. I do not get the feeling that Ike does this though. He seems to be like a lot of us and just enjoys fishing. I can only assume that getting paid for catching a bass adds to his excitement!
Little Luey Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Dan, you should watch Mike's show one of these days, you will see a different Mike that the one you see during competition. The same way you see Tiger Woods pump his fist when he puts the ball in the hole from 50 yards out on the 18th hole with the game on the line. If you only see MI during the BASS tournament coverage you are seeing the guy trying to make a living, imagine you fishing for a big check like he is. I have seen other pros scream and pump fists before, Skeete Reesse did it during last week's coverage of some turnoment on ESPN. When the stakes are that high I think it is easy to get excited. Now you level of excitment may be diferent than most, just like Chad Ocho cinco celebrates a TD compared to the way Barry Sanders just handed the ball to the official. Different strokes for different folks. If you really want to know what make the man thick, get his book and read it. Peace.
vatech Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I FREAKING LOVE MIKE!!!!! HES A FISHING GIANT!!!!! HE IS SO FREAKING COOL AND AWESOME!!!!!! Seriously tho I do like Mike and his book. I record his show and enjoy every episode. Plus he supports/makes contributions to the Jimmy V Foundation, a truly amazing organization. I especially like his stone jigs, they catch me mucho bass!
