I wonder what the IGFA was smoking when they came up with their "Two-Ounce" rule.

Pursuant to the "2-oz" ruling, if two record bass of identical weight are submitted,

the bass that was weighed-in first is awarded two bonus ounces (that's insane).

2 ounce graduation spring scales and 2% accuracy. The IGFA was set up for salt water game fish like tuna and marlin before fresh water fish records were considered.

Cool, I hope he gets it, this is the only record with this much fuss put to it,probably because of the $. Now it won't mean so much when the next guy breaks it.

Just wondering if anyone else read all the replys on the link about the catch and how it looked dead in some of the pictures.

I think its amazing that Japan doesnt allow any catch and release and are required to kill every bass you catch because they are considered an invasive species, yet they can still pull out fish like that... whereas here in the states we preech catch and release and just cant seem to come up with anything to beat GPs record (possibly old record)

Posted

Just becuase you are not supossed to release the bass doenst mean the anglers dont release them anyways. We have a lake out here with the same rule and none of us keep the bass

Posted

to be fair, we had fish that could have beat gp's record, such as the one mark weakley foul hooked. not to mention the top 18 are all from the states i believe. 19th went to japan's previous record.

First off I'm whating to see the final results and if their going to allow it

Secondly I'm ROFLOL because of all the wars we've had over where the world will be caught and I don't remember Japan ever being  mention. Hey guys what are we going to bs about now lol

Thirdly I'm surprised a fish could grow that big that far north, but not I'm not shocked that it happen where they don't practice catch and release. Cuba doesn't practice catch and release and there are some giant bass down there.

Fourthly I guess I need to start fishing in my home lake to catch that 28 lb bass right :D :D

In Japan, the government and the oldtimes want the bass eradicated. The younger crowd and all fishing companies want to keep the bass.

They do practice catch and release, they are just not supossed to.

If there has to be a 2oz difference for it to be a record does anyone know the logic behind this ruling. A certified scale is a certified scale anywhere in the world isn't it. If not enlighten me please !! How many tournaments have been won or lost by 1oz. " THINK ABOUT IT"

Mentioned Japan in the June 1st Giant bass thread, it kinda got lost in all the BS about the Perry bass.

Floridas were stocked in that lake 2 decades ago.

I have seen other pictures of the fish in water.   BASS has article posted on their site as does ***.

another site reported it to be caught on live bait.

Great fish no matter what the outcome.

Only think I can think of, is that they may wanted to account for possibly scale differances.

<shrug>

Not sure, but that's about the only thing I can come up with that makes any sense.  I agree with you all for the record.

Ray Scott is a voting member for IGFA records and joined to insure any bass that may become a new all tackle record must pass a lie detector test and meet all the IGFA record criteria.

Manabu Kurita's catch will be closely scrutinized by the IGFA board.

I hope this bass makes it and becomes a new world record or co-record as it may turn out.

Congratulations Manabu Kurita.
