I've been tearing 'em up with spro popping frogs at my local lake the past week. Well, I'm planning on going night fishing their soon and I'm wondering how well frogs might work at night. This lake has massive amounts of matted grass that the bass love when its really hot out. Do you think I could still catch bass on this matted grass at night, or do you think they will move out of the thicker grass because they don't need the protection from the heat. Anyone have any experience frogging at night? I was thinking a black spro popper might work well.

I have had success with the Spro 65 MidNight Walker(all black). I have not caught any in the actual cover though. Most are just outside of it or on the banks with scattered cover. BEST OF LUCK

Thats kind of what I was wondering. I figured they probably would pull out of the grass at night to ambush prey. Maybe I'll try some black spinnerbaits and buzzbaits along the weed edges as well.

I found frogs to be highly effective. I just started night fishing recently and after not having a lot of luck with the typical night baits, I decided to try a frog since they are by far my favorite bait. I was mainly using the cheap little popping scum frogs and was tearing them up. Started with a black frog and had good luck until I lost it. Used a dark green and did well until I lost it. Only had a white one left and it worked well too.  I lost more frogs that night than I have all year but it was an absolute blast.

Oh and I would agree that they are much more prone to hit it in more open water than they would during the day.

I usually stick to the open edges near the slop at night. Popping frog would be excellent choice. Buzzbait or Jitterbug too. Nothing like that explosion right at the boat in the pitch black night to get your heart started. My P.B. came on a 1/2 oz. black Buzzbait an hour after dark at the edge of a lillypad field.

Good luck!
