tnbassfisher Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 The Baitmonkey got me today at the clearance tub in Academy. Quote
Hook Set Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 He comes in many forms, today he was in the form of a fishing buddy who said he had a G loomis drop shot rod, never used, which could be bought for 130 bucks, I have 2 drop shot rods, do I REALLY need another one..... no, but I bought it anyway, at that price who wouldn't? farmpond1 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 someone, please tell me what or who he is. He's a dumb, made up character whom people blame their spending habits on. I'm probably one of the few people on BR that thinks that he is a stupid fictional character. Just my .02c This guy ^ is like a dad who tell his son before Christmas that Santa Clause didn't exist. :-? What do you mean he doesn't exist.... :-/ Who's been eating all my cookies then ;D The bait monkey has been eating all your cookies? Quote
Fish Chris Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 If people want to make up a fictional character, to explain their habit of spending too much on fishing tackle, that's all fine by me. I'm just not the one. I swear I could walk all the way through a BPS or a Cabelas, with $1000 in my wallet, and not spend a penny. I think I have everything I need right now. Oh wait... maybe a package of splitshots. And it's "NOT" that I already have a warehouse full of fishing tackle either. On the contrary, I've throw away so much old crap that I will never use, in the last few years, you wouldn't believe it. Heck, just last week I was thinking about going through my tackle and throwing away another 25% of it. To say, I "don't need" anymore fishing tackle would not explain it properly > because in fact, "I don't even WANT any more fishing tackle". The only thing an abundance of fishing tackle does for me, is get in my way, make my decisions more difficult, make fishing not as fun, and probably, makes me not quite as effective on the water. Peace, Fish Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted July 6, 2009 Super User Posted July 6, 2009 Folks, some of ya really have to lighten up a bit. Sorry, the devil made me say that (do it). The powers that be on this forum considered the topic important enough to merit a place on the FAQ list. Jeez, the next thing you know Jiminy Cricket never sat on Pinocchio's shoulder whispering in his ear, since as a puppet, he had no conscience. But hey, if you want to belittle those who make light of their propensity to spend money, and yes perhaps too much money, on fishing gear, by blaming it on the bait monkey, it's all good. Quote

Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 He created ebay and runs the sales at Tackle Warehouse...and I think Brent works for him as well. Quote

Fish Chris Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Hey now, just as a disclaimer, I wasn't trying to belittle anyone who likes to buy a lot of tackle. To each his own. My post was from a purely personal standpoint. I'm just saying, new tackle doesn't excite me much, but big fish do ! Peace, Fish Quote

Bass_Stomper Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Not me, I love the little guy. I enjoy trying new baits, in new ways ALL the time. I'm just not content with "Good Enough". I keep that little monkey close by at ALL times, just in case. Plus, he tucks me in at night. Quote

Most of what I own, 75-95% of my lures, have only been wet once- testing in the pool. Heck, I hate the Live Pointer, but BPS had them on sale sometime ago so I bought two more! Quote
Busy Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I generally don't spend much at all on fishing, but yesterday was my birthday and may parents happened to give me a nice giftcard to Cabela's. I didn't have anything else to get so I spent it all on tackle. Even got a new rod and BC. I guess I did give in to the baitmonkey a little there, lol. In general though, I say stay far away from the baitmonkey. Quote
dmac14 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 As long as you have bad credit and are always broke the baitmonkey might stay away from you. I found if you are broke he stays by your side, he comforts you as you go through a hard time. But anytime you get any money he says "You should treat yourself to this new rod, it looks really cool" and then you gotta buy it. Quote
