tnbassfisher Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I have been doing a lot of creek fishing lately, and up until the last couple of weeks I have had no trouble finding the fish. But lately I can't find anything. Where is everyone finding the fish and what are you using? Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Find one with good current, use a fluke or minnow, toss it towards a point of vegetation, pop it a couple times at the surface, let it sink, then twitch it. We were pulling in Bass with every cast for the first 20 minutes with the majority being keepers at 14", during our last tournament. We filled our limit with 14" to 18" keepers by 9am and were culling the rest of the day. I then went with a lizard that was weighted at the head, hooked tail up and flipping it in the lily pads and got some bigger fish that just mauled it. Kevin kept getting keepers hooked up with the fluke and a couple of small "mighty" bass that thought they were bigger, but were "mighty small" , going after flukes almost as big as them. Quote
BrnzeBckStalker Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 as far as creeks i have had luck on poppers in the morn and evening casting around tree trunks that are submerged or overlying trees in 1ft-3ft of water. when getting into deeper water with a mild current i have been using 10in worm texas rigged carolina rigged trick worm and everynow and then a football jig and trailer of your choice. remember to think about lure color choice to go with the water clarity. i am not sure if you are in a boat or whatever but if you have access to the mouth of the creek find the drop offs at the mouth and use plastics or even a crankbait dives according to the drop off depth. hope that helps you a bit Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 2, 2009 Super User Posted July 2, 2009 We been using the rebel crawfish crankbaits in the rivers here. I cast it around the rocks and pools were the bass can hide. They go nuts after the rebel crawfish cranks. The smaller ones work the best. Quote

Rebel crawdads are awesome (except the annoying trait of the rear treble hook wedging in the gap between the pincers. Panther Martin spinners will often intice a bite. Bass can usually be found along weed edges, large rocks and boulders, falldowns, pools, seams (where current meets calm water) and eddys. This time of year they usually bite best in the early morning. My 2 cents worth. Quote

DINK WHISPERER Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I fish a few creeks and feeder creeks as well. My number one baits are a Rat-L-Trap in natural shiner color, zoom fluke in pearl and a T-rigged worm in Chartreuse pepper all fished around any vegetation there may be. GOOD LUCK Quote

tnbassfisher Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks. How are you fishing those Flukes? Quote

Mottfia Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Man I'm late on this one. You've probably already gotten on fish by now. Creeks and small rivers are quick to give up fish again. I love fishing them with my buddies cause we almost always catch them. Its summer so I'd suggest finding creeks with large deep holes. I have seen ankle deep creeks have twenty yard long holes that are ten feet deep...they are also stacked with fish. If you don't have that fish turns in the creek. Really anything that spends up the current is great. Sometimes you just have to walk a long ways to find that concentration. Creeks can be wierd like that. Good luck and let us know if it picks back up for you Mottfia Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Thanks. How are you fishing those Flukes? I use a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG and 15lb fluoro on flukes. I just cast out, wait a few sec and begin twitching the bait 4-5 times then pause for a few sec and repeat. Quote

You may also want to look into the screw in hooks like used for top water frogs. Or even keel weighted hooks to allow a faster fall and deeper depths.. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Thanks Man. I haven't tried any Flukes in the creeks, but will definitely give them a shot within the next few days. Quote
