In regards to fishing for fun, or to find larger bass..I've never fished just for the biggest bass..Let me explain..A bunch of us are having a friendly bass tourny at a lake here in So Cali..Diamond Valley Lake, which is a deep water resivor.  This friendly contest is for the biggest bass, and is in the month of Aug.

Aside from tossing plastic's dropshot, ect..I'm thinking of trying 1/2 oz chatterbaits, and jigs in slightly deeper water, I don't know how deep the fish will be at that time of the month, as this will be the 1st time there...right now the reports are saying that bass are in 15-20' of water..water is clear to about 10' or more.

Mostly rocks for structure. If you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it...There's a few 100 bucks on the line.. :)

With this heat, I would find the deepest drop offs i could and probe them good! I would use a Carolina rig with a big 8" lizard. Also, a big 3/4oz jig with craw trailer bounced off the rocks. The last thing i would try would be a deep crank banged off the rocks as well! GOOD LUCK

If your goal is to catch only big ones, it's simple. Throw baits the little ones can't eat.

Wake baits are a slow, trackable, topwater. Perfect for big bass to track and easy on you during retrieve.
