avid Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I voted no, only because they didn't have "hell No" or "Ewwwwwwwwwwww" as choices. I do stick my nose inside the mouth and sniff once in awhile. Not as romantic as a kiss, I admit, but welll y' know. :-X Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Hell no, they have to clean the swimming area of my home lake twice a year to remove fecal matter and all the bass that I catch in the river are swimming around Three Mile Island all day. I would rather not glow in the dark... Quote
kms399 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I am afraid that if i kiss one I will want to mount it. 2 Quote
bass or bass ? Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 DO NOT kiss the fish you catch. You may aquire a very nasty intestinal parasite that will make you wish you hadn't. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~ Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 22, 2009 Super User Posted June 22, 2009 I dont however i do Rub it under one armpit for luck! JK I saw last weekend on a Bill Dance Fishing show on VS. That kissing the fish can swap Bacteria or something and actually make you or the fish sick? Interesting. I do carry a conversation with the fish all though brief i love it. Ahhh, you bring up an interesting point. Fish slime protects fish from bacteria and other organisms in the water. While I was lobstering, I got a case of fish poisoning when the spine of a fish penetrated my glove and punctured my thumb, right beside the nail. At the end of the day, when I removed my gloves, my thumb was fire red and inflamed. Went to the emergency room since fishpoisoning can be fatal if not treated. The treatment was to soak my hand in water as hot as I could stand. The heat somehow breaks down or neutralizes the toxins found in fish slime. Perhaps bass do not have it in their slime, or it has to be "injected" into the blood stream, but kiss them at your own risk. I've heard tell that you can actually watch the poisoning travel up your arm. Without treatment death is likely. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Well its final, no more making out with the fat girls! Don't know if its coincidence or not but my bro just told me he has a MAJOR case of the loose poo after fishing yesterday! He landed a 9lber and made out with it! I love this site!!!! Quote
Bama_Bass_Tracker Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Okay, I have a question about this "Don't kiss the fish". We have ALL at one time or another swam in lakes, ponds, and or rivers where fish live. I would think the if kissing a fish can make one sick, swimming in the same water as the fish would also make one sick. I have never gotten sick nor have I got an infection from swimming in a lake, pond, or river. Nor have I gotten sick from kissing a fish. But then again I know the waters I fish. Also how many of us wash our hands after handling a fish, before getting something to drink or eat. Just about every fisherman I know puts their thumb or fingers in the fishes mouth to remove the hook, then wipe their hands off with a towel or on their pants, then proceed to grab a snack, or grab a bottle of water. Not trying to cause conflict here but it makes me wonder. Quote
Black Water Basstard Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 It has always brought me bad luck Quote

Back2fishing Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 AWESOME and I love the fact she has a life jacket on 8-) Not anymore! I quit when I married my wife! But, I do have a 2 3/4 pound fishing "sand rat" that comes out from under the console whenever a fish comes aboard and she always kisses them on the tail before they go back into the water. And here's proof! Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Well i have never gotten sick from kissing them either but now i am wondering! I don't want any foreign parasites swimming around in my belly! Quote
SammyLee Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 No, not so far but if I could get a 5 pounder or bigger, I'd kiss its butt in front of the First National Bank at noon on a Friday. Do ya get the feeling that I really want a good sized one? ;=) Quote

We had a tradition, that when someone came out with us for the first time, they had to kiss the vent of the first Sea Raven to come up in a trap. They are a type of puffer. And, yes, I have done it. More than once if only to demonstrate the technique to our guest. Quote

90x Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I was watching a bill dance episode and one plano tackle tip was to not kiss fish. He said that they carry some sort of bacteria that causes diarrhea and flu like symptoms. I have never kissed a fish, but the one day I catch the bass, I'm giving it a kiss no matter what. Quote

I've had it, it sucks, though through getting some water from an infected fish tank in my mouth. You'd know if the fish had it; it looks like velvet on the fish. You wouldn't kiss it if it looked like that. And yes, I kiss a few nice bass every year. Quote

farmpond1 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Only if they buy me dinner first! Too funny!! My response was going to be, "I never kiss and tell" but I had to respond to the above comment first. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 never kissed a fish. I get them out of the water and back in as soon as possible. If it's a nice one i snap a quick pic but that's about it. Quote
