One of my work buds & I were chatting it up about fishing today & we got on the subject of Healthy fish vs Weight. He would rather have the bragging rights of a heavy fish that doesn't look good then catching a really healthy, fat beautiful LMB that weighs less. So that got me thinking, what would I rather catch. BOTH. HAHA. But I think that I'm leaning to the healthy fat fish, rather then the long skinny heavy fish.

So here is the ?

Would you rather catch a super healthy, really fat 10 pounder.

OR

A long skinny 13 pounder.

Remember, there's no wrong answer. Just want to hear your input.

[EDIT] Tournaments are out of the ?.  This is purely recreational. The answer would be too easy if money was on the line.

IMO, when it comes to fishing, bigger is better than looks. I'd prefer the ugly skinny girl.

HAHA.  After I saw the 1st post I thought "man I know where this is going to be heading real fast".    ;D

I'll take either, but would definitely go with the heavier fish.  Maybe if I had multiple double digit fish I'd go for the prettier one, but I doubt I'll ever get there.

I don't believe that the fattest bass are necessarily the healthiest bass (i.e. oxymoron).

A fat bass says more about the health of the "forage base" than the health of the bass.

If bass are anything like humans, overeating will come with a high price.

Yeah, give me the svelte 13-pounder, instead of the 10-pound basketball 8-)

Well DUH!  Ask a stupid question and you will get a stupid answer.  My whole purpose in bass fishing is to catch pretty bass.  I don't care how much they weigh, so long as they are really pretty.

The more I read this guys posts the more I like him..

I want performance, I want a fish that is a battler caught on the lightest tackle I can get away with.

I'm with Mike, I'll take the 10. One of the reasons my home lake is my home lake is because of how beautiful everything is. This TOTALLY includes the Bass. The fish there have beautiful markings, white bellies and often come with a baseball in the gut. Not always though, as pertaining to Rolo's comments. It's just a very healthy, low pressure (as public lakes go) kind of place.

Even the Perch here are beautiful!

I'd happily set the hook into either one of them though the 13 pounder would be a new state record for Michigan....so I'd have to pick that one.   ;)

I knew there was a reason I liked you guys!

tournment wise, I want weight.

Photos I want pretty.

Getting them in the boat is always great no matter skinny or fat

Since I've never caught a bass over about 2 pounds, you'd think I'd want the biggest one.  Yet, I just love the way a healthy bass looks.  All these small ones I catch down at the local lake look so pretty.  Their markings and shape are just gorgeous.  I keep them out of the water for just seconds and am very, very careful with them yet they burn into my memory.

I'd take the 10 pound beauty.

as i have caught a 10 lb'er before........

id have to say the 13 and skinny is my choice.....

...but, if my PB was over 13...... then id have to say the healthier 10 lb'er any day......

A heavier fish, always trumps a healthy, pretty fish..... although a healthy, pretty fish is great too, especially for photos.

Thing thing is though, around here, the heaviest ones are often the healthiest, prettiest ones as well.

Peace,

Fish

Yep Agree with FC No question. A ten is a ten period. A 13 is a teener ans is bigger and better.

The exceptione would be location and subspecies. I would rather catch a 10 northern strain and have it be a state or lake record then catch a 13 from a so cal lake that has a 20lb record. However ther is a limit to that. I would rather catch an 18 out here then a 10 state record somewher else.
