LCpointerKILLA Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I was on my walk back to my apartment tonight and a police officer asked me what I've been catching, how I've been doing ect. He was a very educated bass fisherman... told me about how his most productive lure in the canals was a pumpkinseed senko with a chartreuse tail. And, yes, I asked him if he ever fished the LC Pointer and he said it was his favorite search bait... Favorite color American Shad... I had to say my favorite which is ghost minnow. All in all, great guy, really informed in bass fishing... I am so glad we have good honest guys like him protecting us. God bless america. Great experience. Quote
RippinLips86 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 i got a lot of good info from the local cop who pulled me over one night was bout 1am and we shot the bull for a good hr after he did not give me the ticket about all the good fishing spots i was new to the area so he helped me out in more than one way. ive produced good form those spots too Quote
mike304 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I am a NY Game Warden, so I can really appreciate this post. I think you will find that a lot of police officers are this way, its just that a lot of times people adopt a bad attitude right from the get-go and the interaction goes downhill from there. I've had a lot of great conversations about fishing while doing my job, and I've learned a lot. I had a real good conversation with a guy the other day when I noticed he was using a Carrot Stix rod. I think he was surprised I knew what it was. Quote

People don't remember the nice officer that gave them a hand when they needed it. they remember the story from a friend of a friend that said the officer was a dork. quite sad. but anyways, nice to hear a good story about the officers. When we were up in canada, got stopped by the game wardens, and at first they were all business. once they saw we had our permits they calmed down and told us all the good spots on the lake, and when to go, and what to use. good stuff Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 My dads a police officer and I know he always treats the people he comes into contact with the utmost respect. His biggest complaint is when is police officers who think that their badge makes them better than the civilians he's supposed to be serving. Most police officers are good guys if you give them the chance. Quote
S I G M A Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 The LC Pointer as a search bait huh?? Thats interesting. I would much rather burn a crankbait as I fish a pointer quite slowly most of the time Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted June 12, 2009 Super User Posted June 12, 2009 I have never had a negative experience with a police officer. Every officer I have encountered has been very polite and professional. It irritates me when I hear people bad mouth and stereotype cops. I guess folks tend to forget that if you are not doing anything wrong than there is no reason for a cop to bother you. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 12, 2009 Super User Posted June 12, 2009 We have many members in law enforcement. I think they all represent their profession quite well. For most of us, the cops are our friends! 8-) Quote
bigfish88 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 cops are us with a uniform and a badge. nice guys. Quote

Then you must not have come into contact with many cops :-? In my experience, having dealt with about 15 cops on a "professional" level (no I don't have a record), about half of them were nice. There were a few who treated me like dirt for no reason, and I was nothing but cooperative. Those bad cops are the ones that give the rest of them a bad name, and it's a shame - they were to blame, as I was being tame. Wow, that was lame. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Good story and good point to keep in mind is that cops are human. They feel the same emotions as anyone else but at times they have to deal with the some of the worst people in society. Put yourself in their shoes; someone tries to run you down, shoot you, evade in every way they can and then when they're out of options they throw their hands up and expect to be handled with 'kid gloves'. :-? That or the cops walk into a home where a kid/woman has just been brutalized and they have to show restraint NOT to do what should be done and that's to shoot the perp right there. I salute all our officers but couldn't do that job. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I am an EX-Sheriff Deputy myself! Just about every one of the guys on my team where crazy about bass fishing! I think the good officers far outweigh the bad ones but those few rotten apples give the job a bad name. But that is common in every profession i think. I myself had a hard time putting personal emotions aside and make decisions based on my job regulations! I realized this and resigned to my position! Quote

I think this is what worries me about this profession. Who would do this job for $30, $40K? If it is a public service call of duty then why are there any 'bad eggs'? I think it has more to do with being an authority figure. Just a feeling of mine... Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted June 13, 2009 Super User Posted June 13, 2009 LCpointer, I'm glad you had a chance to meet a new friend. Was he a Boca Officer or Deputy Sheriff? I'm a Deputy and was wondering if I might know him. Many law enforcement agencies throughout the country have a civilian ride along program. Check with your local department to see if you would be allowed to ride with an officer during one of the shifts. Word of advice though. Don't show up requesting to ride if you have any warrants out for your arrest. Don't laugh, there are some dumb ones who live amongst us. Quote
Tom Bass Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I have worked with many police officers on the west coast and the east coast. I work in public transit. I must say that majority of them are good people doing a job that many of us would not do for the money. The officers that I have encountered that were....let's just say "conflicted" were not people that should be in that profession in the first place and they do give cops a bad name. In my younger days (I can't believe I am actually saying this) I was a rebel rouser and a speed junkie (not drugs, motorycles) and in only 2 encounters with police did I encounter unprofessional officers that had chips on their shoulders. In all other encounters I was nice and they were nice. Hey, I knew I was in the wrong. Why fault someone for doing their job? 8-) Quote
mike304 Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 As a police officer I appreciate the sentiments of all of you. I try to treat everyone decent , at least until they make me not treat them decent by their actions. Just today my partner and I were on boat patrol and, after issuing a summons for fishing without a license the guy said "thank you" . You would be surprised how often that happens. By the way, the fish were biting real well, I was jealous. Quote
daviscw Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I had a pretty nice chat about fishing with a highway patrolman that pulled me over yesterday. He was one of the nicer ones. Quote
