Super User Muddy Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 Hey Speedbead: How would you knw what to call a good day? ;D :
bass wrangler569 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Oh, and as far as the question... I say "I whacked 'em" or "I crushed 'em" or "I loaded the boat" If I have a good bag at a tourny weigh in and somebody asks, I usually say "I have a few" followed by a subtle wink
Super User WRB Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 If I have an epic day or catch a monster I say "yeah I caught a couple trout" or bluegill or little cats Or I say "Nope couldnt get any" If I do realy good I say "caught a couple" If I did ok I say "caught a couple little ones" If I did poor I say "It was real tough" Now when I talk to a friend who bailed out or couldnt go I actualy tell them what I caught and rub it in hard. Unless of course it sucked and then I dont call them to report. Ha ha Actualy I find myself using the Caught a couple little ones for most inquiries At the ramp all of the above sounds good, at the tackle shop depends who I'm talking to; caught a few works most of the time, blanked if a tournament guy is within hearing distance. smdono Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 i dont feel the word rape and fishing go together no matter what the context.
Super User J Francho Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 Depending on the context, the word rape could be a noun or a transitive verb, with definitions ranging from a seed, a sex crime, a robbery, to literally "carrying away." I don't think we're referring to seeds or sex crimes when using the word in the context of fishing. :
Super User flechero Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 Raped. Eniahlated. Owned. Dude, Raped? Really? Grow up. I have heard this term used frequently. It is not used in the context you are thinking of. By definition it can also mean to plunder or pillage.... It's in bad taste, no matter the context.
Walz Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Raped. Eniahlated. Owned. Dude, Raped? Really? Grow up. I have heard this term used frequently. It is not used in the context you are thinking of. By definition it can also mean to plunder or pillage.... It's in bad taste, no matter the context. I never said it was in good taste, and I personally don't use the term. I am just saying I hear it from time to time and can understand how it is used in this context. Just the way words like destroyed, killed, and murdered can be.

Next time you finish a project at work and your boss tells you that you did a good job, make sure you say, "Yes sir, I sure raped that one!!" Take a pic of the look on his face and try and explain to him that he took it out of context.
Super User Muddy Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 Poor Chris : ask an innocent question on BassResource.com and this is where it went to, and I am one of the guilty parties :
Walz Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Poor Chris : ask an innocent question on BassResource.com and this is where it went to, and I am one of the guilty parties : Lol. He did put 'slang" in the title and a lot of slang is not necessarily politcially correct. Anyway, I never even actually answered the question. Most of what I use has already been said, but how about "They were practically jumpin' in the boat".

Not trying to argue with you flechero because I'm usually a fan of yours, but it's considered socially acceptable to say "I murded the bass" so how is raped any different. Both are heinous crimes, and "raped" can have multiple less-offensive meanings, such as pillaged, whereas "murded" has one clear meaning. Most likely when people first started saying "I murded this" or "I murded that," it was considered offensive, but then it gradually became accepted as appropriate slang. I think "raped" might be the same way, and gradually it will either die out or be accepted as an acceptable slang word. I'm nor saying this is right and I'm not advocating saying "raped" but I don't see how there's any difference between saying "I murded the bass" and "I raped the bass"
mase088 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Normally after a tournament I'll ask things such as: Were you on em? You whack em? I have also heard "waxed" in place of "whacked"
Lucky Craft Man Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I tell people that "I knocked the S*@# out the socket" and they have no idea what I am even talking about. It's great to see their reaction.
Super User J Francho Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 Anyway....I don't use the word "rape" to describe anything fishing. When I do well, I usually say, "We smoked them!"

This isnt going anywhere. I will say this: The day that "raping" something (even in the most benign meanings) becomes socially acceptable will be a sad day for society, indeed.
Steven Ladner Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Guys, let's try to keep this on topic It doesn't seem like it's going anywhere Good Day= We killed them Slow Day= We lipped a few

Super User RoLo Posted June 5, 2009 Super User Posted June 5, 2009 Slang for "Did really well!" Dunno...I've never been in that situation Roger
mrlitetackle Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 tearin'em up... as in "we were tearin'em up today....) thats about how it goes for me.... and the off days..... those are known as the old goose egg. (i hate those days)
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 6, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 6, 2009 When I have a really good day, I'll either say, "The lake was on FIRE!" (say it with a heavy southern drawl, "Tha lake was on FAHR!") or I say, "It was STUPID fishing!"
