Boiling!

I was fishing a wieghtless lizard over pads on a small pond near my house today, and must have had 20 boils but none took it! Is there anything I'm doing wrong, or anything i could change like color or retreave?

Ps. The only bass I had on the day was on a Broze eye frog.

Kinda, I always droped the Lizard back where I got the strike but there were no takers. I did try the same thing with a senko and still nothing.

The things that I'd try is either a more natural color or a smaller lizard. If I didn't have either of those then I'd go with something with less action like a trick worm.

I've been in situations where I see boils but wasn't able to get anything to bite.  What gives?

fish it slooooow, let it sit till you feel weight ,THEN , set the hook.my best bite on frogs is when i let it sit , force myself to WAIT. YOU WAIT, THEY WILL COME

Fish more finesse. Lighter line, smaller lures, smaller hooks. Watch the color make sure its not to bright or light for the area where your fishing, blend it in!

On the second or third boil and miss,  i would have made a change.

A smaller more subtle bait, a different color, lighter line, slower presentation.......something.

I would downsize like the rest have stated, and if that doesn't work I would hit the other side of the spectrum and rip a lipless crank, jerk a fluke through, or stroke a huge jig and try to get a reaction strike.

You hit it right on the money fluke. Most of the time when bass are short striking a bait or missing it completely it is more a reaction strike than anything. To get them to commit try changing color to match water and downsizing bait. Also when you see a boil I will toss a jig trailer combo and work it over slowly through that area and guaranteed you will get bit.

Could be alot of things. Like others have mentioned, try smaller, bigger, slower retrieve, faster retrieve, scent maybe. You have got them interested, now you need to seal the deal. Trial by error is your best bet. Just let the fish tell you what they want and how they want it.

P.S. I love running lizards on top. But Sssshhhhhh. Keep it a secret.

Quick question? Are you waiting until you feel the fish or jerking on the blowup? Maybe wait a secong longer?

I wait a second, but the fish don't even take the bait its like thier hiting it with thier mouths closed.

have you actually seen bass? are you filling tugs or twitches  or just bumping? it could be bluegill try a white super fluke with mega strike if that don't work try a small swimmer like a 3.5 or 4 inch fathead junior

If bass are boiling up on your bait, but no takers, that would tell me they are interested, but something is a miss.

   Normally, its subtle adjustments to the bait, whether its color change, downsizing the bait, the retrieve speed, rate of fall in the water, faster, or slower, its just minor tweaking needed.

I agree with pithinKid.

I love Lizards do not give up on them.

Normally on hard lures if they are boiling on it and not grabbing it you fish it faster. Try that.

I have fished a lot of lizards and never had them just roll on it.

Bass hate lizards they usually crush them.

I fish 6" on a 4/0 offset weightless.

When bass are blowing-up on the lure, you're home free. On the other hand, when they're boiling and missing the lure,

they're more fascinated than hungry. Slowing down and interjecting pauses can sometimes make a difference.

You might also try a fluke instead of a lizard, and experiment with different deliveries in the open pockets.

I think pgersumky and RoLo are correct. Slow 'er down a bit.

Another thing that I have encountered like ths with flukes and grubs is that the bass see me at the last second and stop the attack. If that might be the case try crouching down in your boat or standing low center. This does help when the bass can see you.
