drop-shot fool Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 If i see one more lure company knock of the color, i am going to have a mental break down. I mean the color is good, but give it a rest. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Bass Pro just came out with their version called "XXX". Just like chatterbaits and shakey heads, the talk won't die down until something else new knocks the bass fishing industry of its feet. Just give it time. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 17, 2009 Super User Posted March 17, 2009 Sexy Shad will fade when the next fad hits us. Quote
DeepStructure Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I'm trying to keep track of all the knockoff names I've seen. BassPro has XXX Shad as M and M said. Bandit has a knockoff called "Sparkle Ghost" The Fat Free Shads now come in "Foxy Shad" ... Can anyone think of others? Quote
djmax22 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 It really doesn't bother me. Great marketing using a catchy name and a productive color patter. I was using L.C. Chartruse Shad for years b/f sexy shad came out. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 I have a new color design scheme. It's a light purple or magenta color base with off-white and pale yellow swirls. I call it Sexy Rutabaga. We all know by now that bass are thinking about "sexy" all the time, and if a bait is not "sexy", they won't eat it. And, nothing says "sexy" like root vegetables. Sounds like a sure fire winner to me. I just can't seem to sell the idea to anybody. What's up with that? Quote
guitarkid Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I refuse to call it by it's normal name because: 1. I am not turned on by small fish 2. it looks good but not that good 3. If someone does'nt know what you are talking about you sound like: A. A freak B. A really weird person 4. I can think of better things to name a bait color 5. Was'nt it an old Heddon color that Strike King ripped off anyways? -gk Quote

Super User Munkin Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 I will never own any bait in this color! Allen Quote
TrippyJai Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I bought a few foxy shad and never considered it to be a sexy shad colour. The foxy shad looks the same, but the dark purple ish back is really nice and makes it different even though it's copied. I like the Normal DNL sexy shad color best for sexy shad. Haven't used these colours much, but we'll see how it competes with the good old white and firetiger. I think it'll produce about the same. I Haven't really had a bait that stands out and catch more fish than another. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 Here's a possible variation. Bullshad. Quote
NEKvt Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Don't worry guy it's over...we are all moving on to sexy sunfish now. Quote
Blue Streak Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I heard they are coming out with a senior citizen version of this called You just don't look good naked anymore. :'( Quote
Super User CWB Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 Think about it. If it didn't work, nobody would be copying it, would they? The commercials will sell a bunch initially but for the craze to last this long and everybody else jumping on the bandwagon, it must work. If you don't like the name, don't buy any. JMHO. Quote

I don't think anyone on here says the color didn't work. It's just that some of us are tired of hearing that it is some magical color that fish just can't pass up. It's just a color and should be added to your arsenal, but it's no better or worse than any other color. As far as the name--I liked it at first, but when the rip-offs started coming out, it got a bit ridiculous! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 I think part of its universal appeal (to bass, not tackle buyers) is that it contains elements common to forage in just about any waters. Add in the fact that its available in a variety of proven fish catchers (fat cranks, spinnerbaits, lipless, etc.) and you have a winning combination. I don't own a single bait in this color, though maybe I am stupid. I resisted "baby bass" for a decade, and that was a dumb move.... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 It's just a color and should be added to your arsenal, but it's no better or worse than any other color. Lucky Craft "Chartreuse Shad" is basically the same and has been around for at least six years, probably longer. I have a couple of "true" Sexy Shad, but I don't really consider them special. Regarding "Baby Bass", that's my favorite color for hard baits! 8-) Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks man, now i feel even dumberer.... ;D Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 18, 2009 Super User Posted March 18, 2009 I was never really a big fan of the color personally...There's no arguing that it has produced very well. I do have a few baits in it but I'll take a pearl shad bomber or LC over it any day. As far as the sexy sunfish goes I took that one hook, line, and sinker. Bought four or five different baits in it the first time I saw it but I fish lakes that bluegill are the main forage and I love to fish bluegill and sunfish type baits. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Call it what you want, Very productive color for me. Thye could call it ********* blue, id still use it. Quote

shadyhaven Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 is anybody else tired of this whole corvette thing? sure there are other cars that go fast and attract women...and on and on and on...haha just had to throw that one in. it all boils down to preference and region. some work others dont(i.e...the new gto). sorry i am a car guy. but you get my point. personally i am sick of the whole swimbait thing but, i live in northern ohio. those swimbaits are as big as some of the bass i catch.hahaha! to each their own, i just wish i came up with it first. rats foiled again.
