cabullwinkle Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I'm have the same situation you have. Our lake does not have a whole lot of cover, so a lot of the bass will gravitate towards points, gravel, small weeds. As for things to use, being that you are a shore fisherman, you do not have the mobility someone on a boat has, so you have to work as efficiently as possible. This gives you a couple of options. You can thoroughly work one area for the whole time you fish or you can pick two or three spots and moderately work those areas over. I usually mix them up by fishing this pattern on different days so as to build your skills. On days when i want to moderately cover water, i will use a searchbait first and see if I can't pick out actively feeding fish. I will then slow down to a softplastic. On the days that I am completely covering an area, i will slow down and use softplastics or jigs. Hope this provides some help for you. Tight Lines! Quote
Big Phish Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 and to answer this one, you stand near the water and cast into the water. and that is how you fish without a boat Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 29, 2009 Super User Posted May 29, 2009 Put on some long pants, load up with bug spray and get a machete. Now go to some of those ponds and look for areas that are inaccesible and carve yourself a path there. Most ponds have X number of fishable spots that have been beat to death. How many times have you looked at a spot you couldn't reach and thought "Man, there's gotta be some pigs back there"...... OR fish those same ponds at night or in the rain. You will be pleasantly suprised. Quote

CRFisher Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 A good pair of shoes helps, be prepared to walk. Learn to cast underhand, sidearm, pitch, etc. with accuracy when that's the only way you'll be able to get your bait our there. Downsizing helps, especially in the heat of the summer. A small plano and a bag of plastics are enough and you don't have to worry about carrying a lot in the heat. The machete idea isn't a bad idea. One place where I fish the low hanging trees where killing all the shore fisherman. Finally, I grabbed my tree lopper, cleaned out a branch or two and gained about 4 lures and the ablity to cast normally at that location. Quote
CODbasser Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 and to answer this one, you stand near the water and cast into the water. and that is how you fish without a boat sounds like something a head would say : pondmaster.....still try to fish cover, since you have to carry your rigs you prob wont have but a couple....on one i would have a 3/0 off set gammy round bend, this way you can fish a senko or a fluke on it and can swap them out with ease, on the other use a shakey head with a finesse worm or a craw of somekind...try to parallel the bank if the fish are shallow...if fishing a point just fish it like you would from a boat but backwards...sometimes fishing up the point works better.. JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Stand on the bank, Cast into the water, reel it in, walk, REPEAT. soft plastics, and floating baits. Quote
