Bass_Akwards Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 What scenario is more satisfying for you and why? 1. You go to a lake known to have 12 pound bass in it. You fish for 7 hours and catch 32 bass all in the 1-4 pound class. 2. You go to a lake known to have 12 pound bass in it. You fish 5 minutes and catch a 9.8 pounder, then don't catch anything else for 7 hours Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 24, 2009 Super User Posted May 24, 2009 #2 #1 is closer to my fishing reality (except for the 32 fish day !), so #2 appeals more to me. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I remember the days when I caught my biggest fish, what the weather was like, what baits I was using, where I was... I also remember the days when I caught a ton of fish, same things,so in my mind, either one is great, either catching numbers, or catching one big girl. as long as I'm catching something Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 24, 2009 Super User Posted May 24, 2009 I like to catch fish..and while catching a 12# bass would be great, going 7 hrs. without catching anything would be a drag..So I'm gonna say #1..I'll take 1-4 lbr's all day.. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 24, 2009 Super User Posted May 24, 2009 I take em as they come so both Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 24, 2009 Super User Posted May 24, 2009 #1 Since both lakes are known to yield 12-pound bass, I'd probably go with lake #1. A low ratio of old-to-young bass is often due to low water fertility, while lakes with high water fertility generally have a healthy recruitment of young bass. This reminds me of the difference between East Toho (low fertility) and West Toho (high fertility) Though both lakes produce 12-lb bass, I'd much rather fish in West Toho. Roger Quote
JellyMan Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 #1 I can wait for the lunkers. Catching them in the 2lb range is still a blast! Quote
T RAV29 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 #1 Going 7 hours without catching anything would be boring. Quote
luger306 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 if I could only pick one I would go with #1.I would be thinking where the big ones are.#2 I would be thinking what I did right, what I am doing wrong, why they turned off, looking for the same condition second guessing myself all day.#1 is the way for me Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 #2, a big bass every 7+ hours is excellent time on the water ratio. If you are catching 30+ small bass, you are not targeting big bass in the first place. A blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile, however the squirrel that knows to look under the oak tree finds them consistently. WRB Quote
wagn Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 #2 The trips I remember the most are the ones on which I've caught my largest fish. A 9.8# fish up here in New Hampshire would make my day. Especially since my largest so far is 7.1 lbs. I wouldn't care if I caught anything else all day. Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 #1 Going 7 hours without catching anything would be boring. not when you have supreme confidence that the approach you are using has every ability to call that specific fish. Every cast is as hopeful as the 1st I'll be spending my second year concentrating on #2. Quote
Culln5 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I'll take #2, but with one twist..... You fish 7 hours and catch the monster with 5 minutes to go! That has happened to me a few times, one bite at the end of the day that makes up for it all. Quote

bass wrangler569 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I would take #2. I've had several 30+ days but I haven't caught a bass over 8lb so #2 appeals to me more. Definitely wouldn't be disappointed with either scenario though! Quote
Super User CWB Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 A Stud or Numbers? Looking at the question my first thought was is this about my pre-marriage dating days? Anyway as I have never caught a 9+ bass but have plenty 4-5 lb. I would have to say #2. Both would be Utopia! Quote
Fish Chris Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Well now first off > Stud = Male = Dink...... but I know what you mean :-) A whole bunch of "really small fish" does nothing at all for me. 30, 1 - 4 lb'ers (with a good number of them pushing that 4 lb mark would be a fun way to get a "fish catching fix", after beating yourself up fishing for 1 giant, many trips in a row, and not catching a single fish. But nothing is going to give me the adrenalin rush (except maybe skydiving.... and I'm not into great heights) as sticking a giant bass ! I mean like, so big when you pick it up, you don't even have to wonder "if" it's over 10 lbs ! To me, if I go out and fish all day, and just "see" a few giants... maybe have a follow or two.... and don't catch a single fish, it's still a more worthwhile trip, than going out and catching a bunch of dinks, in a place I have almost a zero shot at sticking a giant. If getting skunked is "really hard on you" trophy bass fishing won't be your thing. I enjoy just being on the water, so sticking a monster is just a fat bonus ! I'll tell you what..... I'd rather go to the lake today and get skunked, than to go to work :-( ....but that's not a choice I have. Peace, Fish Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Fish,...you're not the norm........but either are the pics on your site Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 I'm pretty sure I saw this same question on the back of a bottle of Molson Ice. I'll take 1-4 pounders all day and if I am somehow lucky enough to bump into Mrs. Mogan, I'll be screaming "GET THE NET". A-Jay Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Hey LBH Fish,...you're not the norm I take that as the biggest compliment ! Peace, Fish as intended...... Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 For me I 'd rather catch one bigun than a bunch of little ones. But I 'm not always fishing all by and for myself, got the nephew and son and I have to think that it 's not always about what I want or wish for, kids gotta catch fish or they get bored, gotta choose numbers and that 's what I 've been doing for the past 6 years.
