zbigbadaaron Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Well i have been getting bites from sight fishing bass. The problem is i don't know what kind of hook set to do on them. What kind do you use and why? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 So your lake has bass that sight fish? That must be weird to see. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 well since i fish from shore and I'm just pitching to pockets to the left or right on me i find that you can't set the hook like you normally would. i set the hook a little harder than the motion of hopping a jig back. Quote

And when you see the bass fly out of the water growing larger and larger, duck... been there done that ;D but yeah just set it high and fast and yank that fish out of the water. I was kayak fishing yesterday and there was a dink right next to me so just for kicks I slipped my zoom trick worm on his head and sure enough he bit so I yanked him out of the water before he knew what hit him. He was close enough that I could have leaned over and picked him up from where he was sitting. it was pretty cool to see actually. smallest fish of the day but the most fun because of the circumstances 8-) Quote

fishing1971 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 For Aussie Bass from the surface, flick the tip of the rod down or angle it left/right on trebbles and it will 99% of the time set. BB Quote
