YNCBASSMAN Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Has anyone had any success doing this? I just recently started trying this and have had moderate success with the zoom ultra vibe craws and flipping senkos. Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 Sometimes it's the only way you can fish from a bank. One of the lakes I bank fish pretty much all you can do is drop baits through holes in the brush. Casting is out of the question. Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 It has worked well for me, often with more success than casting along a bank Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 17, 2009 Super User Posted May 17, 2009 YNC, if you are in a boat flipping or pitching the shoreline, what is the difference from doing the same to the same area from the shoreline? Yes, continue to pitch and flip from the shore. You may surprise yourself. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 18, 2009 Super User Posted May 18, 2009 I do, thst's why I bought a 7'6" rod, But I'd really like to find a reasonable priced (under 100.00) 8' rod. Being broke sucks.. :-[ Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 18, 2009 Super User Posted May 18, 2009 I know YNCBASSMAN is in my area and I bank fish as well. What works well for me in canals and I know he fishes them is to cast to the opposite shore line and just drag the bait back into the water. As far as ponds I prefer to cast the shore line right at the dropoff. Quote

DINK WHISPERER Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I know a few that will flip/pitch while wading around cover. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 i'm not going to be doing too much wading down here in south florida. the gators are enough, now we have to worry about pythons! i do some flipping and pitching when i get the chance from the bank, i did it today with a shaky head and it was awesome. but i feel it is completely different than flipping and pitching from a boat, from the bank you are limited on angles and presentation, in a boat you are above the water a lot more than you are from the bank makes it hard to get good distance sometimes. anyways, thanks for the responses!! bigfruits Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 i get a few more hang ups going dragging jigs uphill but i like to pitch along laydowns and other visible cover from the bank. Quote
SammyLee Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 YNCBassman, Is that Yeoman Chief Petty Officer? I spent 10 in from 72 to 82 as MM1. Anyway, I have no boat, (yet) and lot's of the ponds I fish have brush all around the bank so I flip and pitch, my style, using a spinning outfit! Gotta get the darn thing out there somehow. And hey, I lived in West Palm for 19 years and fished with the gators many, many times. I had a big one in my backyard that used to HATE bobbers. I'd throw out, he's swim out, crush my bobber with one bite and swim back to shore. I'd re-rig, he'd swim out, etc. I had to take a dozen bobbers with me for an hour of fishing. I even went scuba diving in that lake. He wasn't exactly friendly but he was not aggessive either. One time we went to the east coast of Lake Okeechobee to watch the sunset. There was this guy wade fishing with a ring of gators around him. He moved, they moved. Never did they get closer than about 150 feet from him. He was cool, they were cool. I used to water ski on the Ashley river in Charleston. Often, way up the river as the boat came around a bend I'd see gators on the bank splash into the water. I'll have to say, I was bit more careful not to fall at that point! Really, don't sweat the gators. We're not on their prey list. It's mostly a mistake when a person gets eaten. Sharks, the same way. YNCBASSMAN Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 i am a Yeoman Chief Petty Officer!! i'm a submariner, also!! i'm not too worried about gators, i've fished around them my whole life, but i'm not one to tempt fate. i don't have the best of luck, lol. Quote
SammyLee Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Boomers or Quick boats? I was stationed onboard the USS Simon Lake in Charleston in the outside machine shop, mostly doing QA inspections. All boomers for us. I was all set to go on sea trials with one we fixed but they decided to go straight to patrol after sea trials, so that killed that little trip for me. I guess my luck must be pretty good. Skydiving, rock climbing, wreck diving (in your backyard offshore Boynton among other places) hanggliding, motorcycles and solo hikes into the wilderness. The luck is not SO perfect as my wife almost got used to the calls from the emergency room! Tetnus shots so often when asked, "When was your last tetnus shot?" I'd be saying, "Well this is May, I guess November of last year?" 22 stiches in my right hand from a big green Moray eel in the keys. Anyway, thanks Chief for your service to our nation. Heck, you and I both know, CPO's make the Navy run. Well, I will give a little credit to some of the Warrant Officers I knew. Quote
bigfish88 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 dude you picture with the treble hook in your thumb put my stomach in a not and made my fingers hurt, but ya flipping from the bank is successful for me. weightless is key from the bank in my experience. Quote
RandyP57221301600215 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Yes. I love flipping a black and blue jig along the shore on steep ledges. Just get some serious braid because you break off a ton. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 my past 2 sub tours have been on boomers, both times on the Tennessee (Blue). i'm ready to get back on a boat!! i can't believe i miss it. i tried flipping a black/blue jig today actually and i ended up losing it, the fish was the world record, i swear!! 95% of the time i'm flipping a weightless trick worm or senko. i do ok. i don't get the giant fish, but i get numbers and that makes it fun! bigtimfish Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 MM2 01-06 Norfolk,VA And i like to flip craws and brush hogs. i use 3/8oz parasite weights. Quote

Being broke sucks.. :-[ Check out the Okuma GS-C-7111H-T, good swimbait rod that can easily double for a pitching rod. You could cast swimbaits at both Castaic upper and lower lakes. Go up the road to Elizabeth lake and flip jigs. Head over to Quail lake and Pyramid, cast swimbaits for stripers. Drive up to Casitas and cast swimbaits. WRB Quote
little_stephen Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 mostly how i fish...... i target pad beds and any holes i can find in them. also. i aim for where ever i can find multiple kinds of "structure" to fish at the same time. Surface pads meeting pads that grew out above the surface. theres an underwater pipe that has stakes on both sides running the whole length of one side of the lake that has pad beds growing all around it. thats a great spot. i mostly pitch. fliping isnt really an option. where i fish if im on the shore its in a tight confined space. all that extra line tends to get in my way...... but ive landed my personal best from the shore. pitched a 1/4 ounce Booyah Jig with a beaver style trailer out and just hopped it back in..... I use my heavy duty gear for this..... 7 foot gander mtn IM7 heavy action rod. 10-14lbs Fireline in either smoke or crystal. and a generic Gander Mtn Baitcaster. Its targeting the transitions between multiple kinds of cover that makes the diff for me. other wise im just blindly tossing a jig into random holes in the pads and praying...... Quote
