Tips For Heavy Logs?

The spot I fish is a 3 - 7 foot deep winding canal. It is in the middle of the woods and all around are cypress trees, stumps, bushes, and tons of huge fallen logs in the water. I catch 1-2 pound bass like crazy in there but I KNOW there are some 6lb + lunkers just hangin under and around those fallen trees and sticks.

Question is... Which baits would you recommend, color, and presentation. btw, water is a greenish color. I have been swiming shallow watermelonseed lizards and brushhogs and been killin it. But looking for more size.

I would upsize the baits. Maybe 8 inch lizard, 12 inch worm, 1/2 -3/4oz. jig with a big trailer. For colors Watermelonseed, pumpkinseed is what I use for lizards. Red shad, or black/blue for the worm. And Black/Blue or pumpkin/watermelonseed for the jig.

jig jig jig. fished real slow. try brown/green with watermelon chigger craw trailer. Heavy braid is a must.  Just my 2c but jigs seem to bring out the hawgs.

I have a similar situation and every time I tie a jig on, the logs get it.  It is so thick that I'm at a total loss on how to fish the bottom, texas rigs lost, carolina gone, and jigs man I loose more than I get back.

I would break out my flippin stick(Powell Max 766H), heavy line(25lb BPS XPS fluoro) and lock the drag down on my reel(Revo STX). Then i would proceed to pitch a quality 3/8oz green pumpkin jig with a green pumpkin 4"  chigger Craw as a trailer. Methodically pick the entire area apart and you will be pleased. Also, you would be surprised at what a jig can go through without getting hung if you know how to work one(VERY SLOWLY).

Yu know guys... I was thinkin, 20lb test Power Pro braid, brownish/green jig, and some pitching through the canals. LOL. I think I know more than I give myself credit for. Maybe I was a bass in my past life haha.

More suggestions are welcome!

So pitching and retrieving up before pitching again?  Most of my problems come when I try to cast to another tree instead of relocating the boat, so verticle jig only, do not try to cover stretches of cover at a time and work S-L-O-W-L-Y?

I wouldnt suggest throwing a jig more than 30 40 feet. Being that you would, in heavy stick cover, take a greater chance of getting caught up. I would say close 20 foot pitches and worked real slow.

I dont have any jigs in my box but I am going to substitute the jig idea with a watermelon seed big brush hog with a light bullet weight till I get some jigs from BPS.

I like flipping a heavy jig or single blade (thumper) spinner bait. Learn to pitch or flip the bait beyond the cover & crash it back, bumping it against something as often as you can. I get hung every once and a while, but I'll also get bit more often. If you are going to fish heavy cover (wood or grass) you can not be concerned with loosing lures.

It doesn't matter if you use Braid/Mono/ Fluoro you are going to loose fish and lures accept it or stay frustrated.

I learned a long time ago you can have lures in your tackle box or fish in your livewell but you can't have both.

In heavy cover you must take control of the bass the instant you think of setting hook, not after you have set hook.
