bigtimfish Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 ok, here it is. if KVD only had 1 decent rod and a zebco reel, he has his full tackle but just one rod and a crappy reel. you have ALL of your stuff. do you think you could win? the body of water is a lake neither one of you has fished before. i Honestly do not know if i could. Super User roadwarrior Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 Take care of that in the morning and put a whoopin' on Tiger in the afternoon! Then maybe a little one-on-one with Michael Jordon after dinner? Quote
HAMMER23 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 ALLRIGHT BIGTIM !!! I see where you are headed with this one, all this chatting lately over which reel is the best has got you thinking ! How much does technology help a veteran fisherman. I personally think technology always helps the weaker fisherman not the pro. EASY FISHERMAN DONT GET OFFENDED !!! Quote
NovaBasser Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 There is way too much experience and knowledge that would KVD the upper hand on any body of water. Maybe if his zebco reel hand no line, then I'd hand it to him. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Could I? Sure, maybe in a half day club tournament. This is still fishing and blind luck is still in play. Stranger things have happened. Would I? No. Even with lesser gear, he's still the world's number 1 bass fisherman...and I still buy my own worms. By the way, Michael Jordan lost a game of one on one to an investment banker: so I guess anything is possible. Quote

Super User Raul Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 Y'all pay my expenses I'll take him on Catt, you are about this close to become my hero. Seriously, what makes KVD to be KVD ? it ain 't the wand, it has never been, it 's the magician who makes the magic. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 If I had dreamed up a post like this I'd become a hemp farmer and really hallucinate. I'd put my money on KVD using a cane pole or a hand jig line and walking the shoreline against sophisticated equipment and knowledge of your home lake. This one ranks with some of the most banal. HAMMER23 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Reading all the answers I know what is going through everyones mind and I have the very same thoughts. We have all watched BASS and saw KVD'S final weight a tournament and realized it was 4oz less or 4lb or whatever than we have just weighed in on our own turf, on a weekend of fishing for the fun of it. But a one day tournament under those circumstances , lets just say I WOULD LOVE TO TRY !! Remember he just got busted up by a guy in a G3 aluminum boat and no bow mounted fish finder. SOMEBODY SET IT UP !!! YOU KNOW EVERYONE WOULD DEFINATELY WATCH. TV ratings would go through the roof. Quote

Bull Hurley Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The question was on a neutral body of water neither of you had ever seen, not my private lake that I built myself and know where everything is and can beat him to them. To answer the original question I would like my odds. I have enough confidence that I can go anywhere and catch fish. Over the past few years I have done just that. I have seen many new bodies of water I knew nothing about and was able to catch'em. Don't get intimidated because of who's in the other boat and do what you would if you were out there alone. Quote

CSB Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 If its just one tournament, I could absolutely beat KVD or any angler for that matter regardless of the equipment at their disposal. Theres a lot of variance in fishing, and its possible for someone to be a winner short term but a loser long term. Id bet a lot of the professionals have a negative ROI long term, but its unlikely we'll ever see the long term. Anyone who says it isnt possible needs to read Fooled By Randomness and The Drunkards Walk. Bottom line, short term results are not an indicator of true performance. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 It is my honest opinion that any amateur level angler, not a fellow professional, who thinks they could hang with KVD on most days (not an I-Can-Do-No-Wrong kind of day) on a neutral body of water, if he was limited to the specifications of the original post is on crack. A zebco reel is not that big of a limitation for someone of his caliber. You may think you could give him a beat down as you sit comfortably at your computer but the reality is, on the water, very few average anglers would have a shot. He's on another level. Quote

IF it were a bunch of zebcos it wouldnt be that much of an advantage for you. but since it is me with all of my electronics and all of my rods and him with just ONE rod with a zebco that might be a different story Quote
