Great vid Russ.

By the way, I think Jimmy Houston is contacting his lawyer as he has a patent on kissing bass.

I use more tongue  ;)

ETB-Not sure what's up with that, one other person said the same thing, I'd have to assume it's your internet browser.  What are you using?

great video just an idea lift your rod till you lightly feel your dropshot weight and pulsate your worm without moving the weight then let it drop back into the bed. Do this a few times then relocate the weight in a different spot. Each bed has a sweet spot that drives them crazy and will protect more so than the rest of the bed.(use this technique if they are not happy to nail it)

A good point.  This was shot after we had been fishing these beds since they very 1st appeared at the beginning of the week.  The majority already had a sweet spot established and in our lake, with that clarity, it's pretty easy to pick out the sweet spot (it's a grey-er color than the sand/gravel around it)

Aim for that sweet spot every time.  f you are in the nest but not in the sweet spot, the can make all the difference some days.  Some days, they'll come out and meet the bait b4 it even gets in the nest.  (Like they were on day 2 when I was fishing the rage Tail prototype)  Pay attention to fish behavior on every bed and they will generally follow suit for the period you are fishing as long as they are all from the same "wave" of the spawn.

The bed is a depression or a "cleared away" circle, usually found between 2ft and 8 ft of water (although there are some deeper and shallower) The male "clears away" all the loose gravel, sand, silt, debris, with his tail and mouth to make an attractive nest that might entice the female to lay her egg in. Much like humans, the better the real estate, the hotter the chick, lol. Let me see if I can find and video showing a bed.....

ok, in the clip below, as the boat gets closer to the rock wall coming out from shore, you'll notice 3 beds at the foot of the right side of the wall. 1 is occupied, 2 are older and abandoned (the Bluegill will conveniently use these in another week or so for their spawn) You can see them better as the clip nears the end.

Those are examples of beds. If you see one that's well cleaned like the furthest one in this clip, there IS a fish nearby or directly on it. Don't be fooled if you don't see him,....he's close by.

Short clip-BEDS

What kind of weights are you using?

Are did you have the hook thru the head of the worm?

Typical drop shot weights.

yes, hook thru the head :)

Great pics.

Now you can clearly see the "sweet spot" Chris spoke of. The jig is dead in the center of it. The soil is different color than the surrounding soil within the bed. I'm going to swing for the fences and say that's where the egg gets deposited.

I love the way he is 1 eye down to the bait, keeping watch outside the nest at the same time.

Look at how perfect the different levels of bottom material are.  From the grass bed to the silt bottom, to the spot that has been cleared away.  A great example of why we see Bass with war wounds and tails worn down to the bone.  There's a clean 3" of bottom material removed, to make that nest.  Granted, it's an accumulation of yrs of spawning, I'm sure that spot gets cleared out every spring, but still,...there's a lot of man hours or should I say Fish hours, of work there.    Again, great pics

Also note the defensive posture, and raised dorsal fin.  The jig has his attention.

Great video Russ, and pictures Bass_Akwards!  Quick question, did you use a Circular Polarizer or was the water that clear?

Might be waterproof, the pictures were made above the water level.

a "sweet spot" is a area somewhere in the bed that the fish are going to protect more so than the rest of the bed and each bed bass is different.

Great video! Very nice. What kind of hooks do you prefer for drop shot?

No preference.  That is an octopus hook.  They are on the boat for wacky riggin trick sticks, it worked :)

Cool video! What camera are you using and how are you securing it to the boat?

That's a fujifilm s5600 ($278) and it's sitting on the other seat. :)

I didn't use a circular pol in these two shots.  I waited for any and all chop on the water to go away, and positioned my camera so there was no glare.  I do have Circular Pols for all my lenses and use them for shots like this if the angle I want is comprimised by to much   glare.  In this instance, I didn't need one.
