Eddie Munster Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Some good ones fellas. Got a snag last week in a deadfall and everytime I stopped the trolling motor as I eased in to get my lure, the boat would pull back out. I sat there thinking 'am I on a limb?' After 3 times I realized I never pulled up my anchor. :-[ Just yesterday I forgot to pull it up twice. Tends to run down the trolling motor battery a little. Quote
Btech Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Getting stuck out in a huge thunderstorm with just enough raingear for the wife, and I get soaked. Then, going out the next day by myself and getting stuck in a huge thunderstorm with no raingear at all because it was hung out to dry and left behind. Yeah, I got soaked again. how about bringing rain gear planning on using it and leaving it in the hotell room! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 4, 2009 Super User Posted May 4, 2009 One day out on the lake there was a slight breeze with about 15 mph gusts. I throw over the anchor, but I'm still moving. Couldn't figure out what was going on since I wasn't having any problem casting. Then I noticed the anchor line floating on top of the water and realized that I never tied it to the boat. Luckily I was in about 4 feet of water. Quote

Bean Counter Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Years ago I got a job selling boats. When I finally sold a boat the boss told me to deliver it to the lake, launch it for the customer and give him a test ride. When I got to the lake, the new owner was there with all his family to see the new boat. I backed the trailer down the ramp backed the boat off the trailer & started over to the dock when I felt something on my feet. I looked down to see water washing around my ankles. I had left the plug out. I sure didn't want to sink the boat so I gunned the motor & ran it back up onto the trailer. The problem was that with all that weight in the boat, it rode lot lower in the water. When the boat was about half way onto the trailer the lower unit hit the ramp & snapped off. Needless to say, the boat did not get sold and I was looking for a new job. :'( Quote

dmac14 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 When you tie on a nice expensive bait, or the last plastic you have that has been catching fish. And you toss it over to get ready to fish, and ... you find out you tied it to a scrap piece of line and your lure sinks to the bottom. Or when you go to toss a bait to someone and it goes straight over for a swim. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Attempting to set the hook a fish on my first trip of the season and forgetting to remember that I had all the drags on my reels completely turned off. LOL, this is a classic! I did this about a month ago and the reel slapped my glasses off my face! ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User cart7t Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 I once took this girl fishing with me(trying to show off) and i put my old Stratos boat on plane with the trolling motor still engaged and in the water!!!!!!!!!! > Been there, done that, got the T-shirt, shrank it and gave it to my little brother. I always seem to do it in front of a bunch of people. Been there and done that as well but I'm raising the stupid stakes Try trailering a boat with the TM still in the water! Quote
HAMMER23 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I thought I had a story but you guy's left me speechless. Great story's and definately brightened up my day !!! Thanks Quote
brgbassmaster Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 first day out with my new/used boat got it started went driving over to the dock. once i made it to the dock the boat stalled. i sat there for about 45 minutes wondering why i couldnt get that thing to turnover. well come to find out i left the boat in forward. so taht was 45 minutes of stupidity. done it a couple more times but i realize what happend after about 1 minute now lol. bigtimfish Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 one thing i did that makes me feel stupid is waste my money on a pfleuger. Quote
Surgin Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 My first bass tournament I'm all excited. They shout go I move to some close weeds and send my brand new sexy shad crankbait along their edge. Boom!!!! A gun shot goes off, then I realize as did the 5 other boats around me that I didn't open the bail on my rod. Shad goes about 40 yards and promptly sinks to the bottom. One voice in the back somewhere yells there goes a new lure. DOH!!!!! Quote
bigfruits Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Threading a trailer on a brand new jig and failing to realize that it wasn't tied on yet, then tossing it overboard. DOUBLE DOH!!!! id did that once with my friend watching. i remember talking about how delicious it looked and how i was going to catch a big one. then i dropped it in the water and stared at it while it sank to the depths. we prob laughed for a couple minutes after that. Unknownwaters Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 going fishing on the river three consecutive weekends, having the boats motor break down all three weekends, and having thunderstorms hit all three weekends. So were either floating downstream waiting for the current to carry us down to the boatramp while its poaring rain. Never went fishing with that motor ever again and was sure to check weather reports b4 i head out. Quote
Unknownwaters Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 O and one time i had my brand new cellphone sitting on the boat while i was fishing in 90 feet of water. I saw it and said to my dad "better not knock this in the lake" and went to pick it up. It then slipped out of my hand, bounced off the deck one, then dropped in the water. I had immediatly dived after it but it sank to fast. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 ok theres 2 morons involved in this idea. Jimzee and i were fishing the New river in our personal pontoons. We caught a ton of fish. Next day we decide that if we had anchors we could catch even more. Let me first say that if nobody has heard of or seen the New River, that it is also used for Whitewater rafting and the section we were fishing has some Class III rapids. Well in a deeper swift pool, we throw the anchors overboard. DRAG, DRAG, DRAG, CATCHES! Boat submerges and a slight case of whip lash occurs. Couldnt get my anchor loose. So if anybody needs an anchor, there is one right behind the hotel in Hinton WV. My good ideas usually turns into an " I almost died today story." Quote
Btech Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Wow these are great! I think bean counter has them toped though. Did you at least get the boat? Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 6, 2009 Super User Posted May 6, 2009 Got to the lake, tied on my brand new 8" castic swimbait, got ready to cast out only to find that instead of cutting the tag, I cut the line..if that wasn't bad enough, on my 3rd cast that lure got hung up on some timber, never to be seen again.. :-[ Quote
infiltwb Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 proxy posting for my wife(waiting to get slapped) last year on raystown lake, in about 110 ft of water, she wanted to try out one of my father in laws rigs, grabbed a beauty(you probably know where this is going) sustain 2500 on a fenwick eagle xml, just happened to be his favorite rig out of the collection, went to cast, bail caught, closed on her finger and promptly confirmed that aluminum is NOT neutrally buoyant. On a side note, while dropping jigs to try and recover it, we did manage to pick up 2 shakespeare spincasters, a snapping turtle, and our only fish of that weeklong expedition. Quote
pa mountain man Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Fishing with my buddy one moonless night, we were tearin' em' up in 6' of water on plastics. My buddy leans hard to one side of the 12' boat to retrieve something, so I try to counter balance the boat by leaning the other way, when he returned to normal, we tipped that unit like a sleeping cow. When I resurface, and try to get my bearings, my buddy screams "It's got me, it's got me, oh dear god!, well, I think "I don't want it gettin' me!". We start swimming to shore, he is 30' ahead of me, pleading for his life, and I figured 2 of us vs. the swampthing is better than one. He makes it to shore, and all I hear is brush crashing, and blood curdling screams. Great, now bigfoot has entered the scene, so agaisnt my better judgement, I get out of the water, all the while he is screaming for help. I get out of the water, and the only thing I can think of is to help my friend, so I yell,"crap you're pants, it'll think you're dead!" Then all goes silent, and I think he's dead, and now the aliens are hunting me, then I hear a wimper in the brush, and I find my buddy all tangled up in crab apple trees. He says a snake got him, and it's still attached, but stopped moving, once again, against my better judgement, I feel for the snake, and I found it!, he was switching up to a husky jerk, and when the boat tipped, me managed to set the hook underneath his knee cap. Super User eyedabassman Posted May 9, 2009 Super User Posted May 9, 2009 When fishing a tournament I hooked a spinnerbait in my sock, when I went to try to get it I bent over to remove the hook and somehow hooked a crankbait in my shirt sleeve, so now I can't stand up! I am so glad I had a partner in the boat! :-[ :'( Quote
