ZeNoob Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Oh the horror!!! :'( Was fishing a YO-ZURI($8) it was the small sized one, freakin was killin em with it in the pond twitching it like a dieing minnow. Probably got hit 20 times and realed in about 10. thats normal since its got small hooks. Then it happend. BAM!!! I nail the monster of the day, with 4# line he put up a decent fight. Finnaly got him to shore, and rolled him onto the bank into a puddle. I go down to grab his lower lip when he gave a good hard flutter. i pulled my hand back as to not get the hooks jammed into my hand, the line on the rod goes limp and the fish jumps back into the water. Lost the big one of the day and the $8 lure, all because i was to lazy to cut a bit of line and re-tie the lure :'( dont let this happen to you!!!! ;D Quote
aarogb Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Man if that were to happen to me I would be sick :'(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 If you aren't willing to lose the lure, don't fish it. Quote

I also don't fish expensive lures on the 4# test. Learned the hard way too. Quote

mrlitetackle Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 honestly, i love light tackle fishing....... but if your going with 4# test.....its simply inevitable!!!! still......your loss hurts none the less..... Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 Good story and a lesson for all of us. Thanks for sharing. Now, go back and catch him and get your lure back. Quote
Joe Boss Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Ouch! I feel your pain. Reminds me of the time I was saltwater fishing with my father in law and I wanted to show him the action on my brand new Kastmaster lure (also $8) I flipped it over the side close to the boat and started reeling it in. A Bluefish came out of nowhere and slammed that lure its teeth ripped right through my line. Bye bye lure. All I could say was Doh! Quote
HAMMER23 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Congratulations !!! u have just joined the club with another million fisherman. Dont be down , it will happen again anytime you fish light line , your just that much wiser . Quote
Eddie Munster Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Sucks losing not only the fish but the lure you were killing them on that day. Retie early retie often. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 What do all us old farts say on a regular basis ? check the condition of your line and retie oftenly. Well, you learned the lesson the hard way, we hope that it will never happen again. The Devil knows more from being old than from being the Devil. Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 Your story has happened to all of us that preach retying often.... we were as stubborn as you before we lost large/nice catches. Seriously, it takes about 30 seconds to cut and retie. Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 that has happened to me before. when i did a lot of ul fishing. but when you do pull that 6lb bass in on 4lb line its totally worth it. i did it many years ago. on a frog bodied beetle spin. the stupid thing i did on that one was, i was a kid (11)and tried to make a stringer with a stick and kite string. i stuck it in the mud and shortley after i watched the 2nd biggest fish of my life swim away with a stick sticking sticking out of his gills Quote
IdahoLunkerHunter Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 If you aren't willing to lose the lure, don't fish it. Perfectly Said! Quote
