bigmountaineer Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I have yet to try the bobby's perfect we shall see then Quote
djmax22 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Bobby perfect frog is my favorite frog. It is much easier to walk than the Spro. Quote
djmax22 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 The Rage Tail toad is awesome in the pads. Thats a toad, not a frog, but they are awesome! 8-) Quote
DeepStructure Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 What do you guys think of those frogs, I think they're Panther-Martin, that have a downturned hook with a wire weedguard instead of upturned hooks pressed against the body like most frogs. It seems like you'd get better hookups but it might also be more prone to snagging junk, too. Also, what about the Bass Pro XPS Tender Toad? Quote
bigmountaineer Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I'm anxious to try the bonzeye jr, looks goods Quote
adclem Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 SPRO Bronzeye or Bronzeye Jr. I did pick up some plastic frogs to try this year as well. YUM, Stanley and Rage Tails. Later, Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 16, 2009 Super User Posted March 16, 2009 my favorite frogs are canyon plastics (4.5'') , ragetail toad , and gambler's cane toad . i prefer soft plastics over hollow-bodied ones . some soft plastic frogs you can even use a double frog hook on (the gambler cane toad) . but i like using a 3/0-5/0 skipjack hook (gamakatsu) . the softplastics are alot more weed proof , you rig the frog texas style and slightly bury the hook point . good luck , i know i can't wait till the grass mats come back to the lakes i fish !!!!!!! Nitro 882 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I bought myself a spro last year and fished with it for about 3 weeks before it got snagged in some really thick off-shore junk. I only caught 3 fish on it. I had 65 lb braid as well. I lacked a true "frog rod" but my old old MH Ugly stick worked ok. My only gripe with the spro was after the second fish the frog stretched out around where the hooks enter the body and I was having to empty it of water every cast or 2. Is this typical? For $8 I would expect more then 2 fish before that happens. I bought myself 2 packs of rage tail toads to begin this year. Havent used them but am pretty excited to try. Spread a little clear silicone sealant where the hook enters the body of the frog. Works like a charm. Quote
The Next KVD Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Also, what about the Bass Pro XPS Tender Toad? The Tender Toad sucks! The plastic is way harder than any other frog I've used. The harder plastic doesn't collapse as easily and you end up losing alot of fish. Just my experience though. Quote

dacrawdaddy Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I tried the Mann's super frog when they first hit the market and after about 5 casts the lead weight literally cracked and fell out. I e-mailed Mann's about this and they told me that this was a common problem with the super frog. Mann's then sent me 2 free frogs and 10 replacement lead weights. Nice of them I thought. Hopefully Mann's has corrected this problem by now. I have been fishing with hollow frogs for decades and have caught more fish on the original Snagproof frog than all the others put together, they have been around a long time. I tweak mine though, I cut the legs just above the knee and glue a short living rubber skirt into the hollow thigh and finally I wrap some lead wire around the hook for added weight. I don't know if it is the profile or size but I catch more fish on the Snagproof frog. I have experimented with other frogs side by side and always get more action on the original frog. Quote
