BigJohnny Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 At my usual fishing whole it appears that the carp are spawning in a shallow cove, and I have been catching pretty large numbers of bass around this area. Could this be an indication that bass will spawn/are spawning in that area? Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 28, 2009 Super User Posted April 28, 2009 Carp spawn in water between 68 to 75 degrees, after the bass have spawned. The carp are egg eaters and more than likely raiding bluegill beds or late spawning bass beds in the area and spawning. WRB Quote
Super User CWB Posted April 29, 2009 Super User Posted April 29, 2009 You can usually tell when carp are spawning. They aren't too subtle. Splashing and stirring things up. However, bass seem to notice this and clean up whatever the carp stir up. Don'T be afraid to fish an area where you see carp thrashing about. There will most likely be some bass in the area. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 29, 2009 Super User Posted April 29, 2009 When the carp are spawning in my canal, the bass fishing is FANTASTIC. Falcon Quote

Interesting, I have had a lot of success in a different area of a lake I fish. There were allot of carp thrashing around. Quote
whittler Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Sure have to agree with the three posters above me, when the carp are spawning the bass are right there. In one of the rivers I fish the smallies are right in the middle of the carp spawn cleaning up anything they stir up. Quote
